Sounds like fun, Tina. Hubby and I have joined a Civil War reenactment group this Winter. It's The 10th Illinois Cavalry Unit out of Bloomington, Illinois. We have training weekend in April with cannon and gunfire. Our first 'scermish' is the end of April in Keokuk, Iowa. Hubby will be a trouper and I'll be the Colonel's messenger.

We've decided on a name! The Carousel Riders!

We've had several rehearsals already and we've got a group of 20 people total who are interested in performing with us.  We have a costume prototype for our wild west show and we will surely be performing at the Old West Festival!

I am so excited!  Everything is coming together nicely.  We have slightly more new riders than I would have liked, but I'm dealing with it.  Our next two rehearsals are "safety sessions" and we'll be doing some more lessons after that.  But, we've got a good portion of our synchronized riding routine together - and that's something!  Check out our website for some pics!

Those are all great suggestions!  And please, keep them coming if you've got more!  All I've come up with so far is "Renaissance Riders."  Which we both really like.  We just don't want it to pigeon hole us into Renaissance fairs since we'd like to do other shows as well.  But, both of us got our start at the Renaissance Festival, so it is appropriate.  It also is a rebirth for us as well.   He said the owner of the Wild West Fest is trying to distance his fair from the Renaissance Faire.  So we'll see what he thinks on Thursday of this week!  I might know something sooner than I thought!

Sounds like you found your "horsey niche".  I was on a drill team for 4 years and it was a lot of work,  we didn't have time for anything else.  But it was fun and I am glad for having the experience of it.  My two kids did it too so it was a family affair.  We rode in parades and was at fairs and horse shows.   Had potlucks after practice and met some special friends.  I'm not good a names so I'll leave that up to the rest to help you with!

All Right!  Get ready to work!  Although I like being a loner, some days I wish for my 'club' days!

Man oh man - would I love to be a part of your new group - as for a name, this would be hard because of the diversity of what you want to take part in, but how about "The Equestrians"?

My friend and I (she's non-gaited) have joined a local riding club called Silver Spur Equestrian Riding Club and we have all ages and types.  So far, there's only 2 of us that I know of that are gaited - guess we'll have to be partnered for parades and drills, which is okay by me just as long as I get to participate.  Have fun, be safe and keep us updated so we can live through you vicariously.

A friend and I are in the beginning stages of forming a performance group with our horses.  We'll be putting several different types of shows together.  Wild West, Renaissance, County Fairs, Parades. . .etc.  We are starting our search for riders and musicians now and he has a meeting next week to pitch our show to a festival for next summer!

I'm so excited to get involved with something my horses and I can do together.  I've never been competitive.  Going to horse shows to ride my horse for a few minutes for some judges just was never my style.  But, I've been performing, sans horses, at the Renaissance Festival for 7 years now and I love it.  And I love performing!  The possibility of working in my horses excites me beyond belief.

Our first rehearsal is next Sunday.  We'll be working on carrying flags and desensitizing the horses to the flags being waved around them.  He has been jousting for several years now and has two jousting horses and two Morgans, one of which has been doing Civil War reenactments for probably close to 15 years.  And then I have my three boys - two Rockies and a TB.  All of them have extensive trail experience and have been giving lessons for several years to all types of students.  It's nice too because I'm at a point in my relationships with my horses that I feel like I can do anything on them.  I have so much confidence in our combined abilities.  So I'm very confident that my boys can be fairly easily trained to carry flags and tolerate gun fire.   We'll find out.  There is so much work to be done and this is only the beginning.  But, the prospect of doing something I love - something I REALLY love is exactly what I really need right now.

The hardest part at the moment is trying to think of a good name!  I'll keep everyone updated with the progress!
