Thanks so much for the prayers and encouragement.  Goldie's lump is going away.  It is about 75% smaller and there hasn't been any edema around the lump for about a week.  She must have gotten kicked or hurt herself some other way when I wasn't around.  I really wish vets wouldn't say words like cancer so quickly.

My TWH also had the same exact thing when he was 3.  I just figured he got a kick from one of his pasture mates.  I left it alone and it went away in a couple weeks just fine.

No worries. :)

Also another thing you can do to help her, is put your hand on the area. Just like covering it. And visualize the lump going away and the whole spot healing and send her healing energy through your hand. Sort of like Reiki but with contact. Strange as it sounds it actually works and *everyone* has this ability with in them. Just have to use it w2

i have seen this and it could be a hematoma.(blood filled skin) it should go away but sometimes it takes forever.

Thanks for all the prayers!  I just got back from the barn, and all the edema is gone.  The lump seems to be going away so hopefully all the prayers are helping.  I'll go back to see Goldie tonight and check her again.  If there isn't any edema tonight I will feel a lot better because it is usually worse in the evenings.

mygirl, I had a TWH who had the same thing exactly; it was just a lump between his two front legs at the chest.  The vet never figured out what it was; it didn't bother him (the horse) so we left it alone.  He is still alive at 28 YO, and as feisty as ever.  I wouldn't necessarily ignore it, but it the vet doesn't find anything, don't let it worry you to death.  Blue is still going strong, and no pain or issue at all.  The vet still doesn't know what it is...

My prayers for you and Goldie. I don't know what this could be but I hope it turns out to be nothing. I understand how this makes your heart sink. Prayers, prayers, and prayers.

About a week ago I noticed my 4 year old Tennessee Walker had some saggy skin on one side of her chest directly between her front legs. She also has some edema in that area. I had the vet out, and she found a large egg sized mass that is not painful. The lump is in the muscle, and the saggy skin is caused by the edema.  My horse has not shown any lameness, and I don't know of any injury... at least during the 3 hours a day I am at the barn. The vet took blood to check for an infection, but the results were negative. According to the blood she is slightly anemic....maybe a false reading because she came right out of her stall before the blood was taken. The vet said possible infection, injury, or possible mass/tumor. When she said tumor I got scared to death. Also, there was a case of pigeon fever at the barn back in February/March. She hasn't been tested for that yet.

Please help! Or at least pray for Goldie. I lost my last horse over 12 years ago to colic...was so devastated I was never EVER going to get another horse. I broke down in October 2008 and bought Goldie. Now I am scared to death it could be something serious. Has anyone here experienced anything like this?
