My chiropractor looked at him two weeks ago and noticed that my saddles didn't fit him. I hadn't looked at them since last fall and hadn't noticed that they no longer fit! Thanks for all the help! He's had two weeks off and tomorrow I'll see how he's moving. Hopefully he's ready for a ride!

Do you ride this horse? If so trot him. If his left side needs muscling trot him on the left diagonal. Or the right if its the right side. BUT have a chiro look at him first.

You might also want to consider a saddle pad with shims that would allow you to fill in on the side that is uneven.

Hi Tina, I ditto everything CT says here. Also, don't be afraid to post 'non-gaited' horse questions here. . .a horse is a horse, and we deal with all kinds of equine related questions on here! PB

You know, I don't know for sure what would be best, but I know something that could help. Several years ago I had a horse that had had a hip out of joint apparently for years. His musculature was weakened on one side as well. Chiropractics fixed it, but he was stiff and sore from the manipulation. I learned basic equine massage and did it for him every day. I realized after a while that the massage was helping tone his muscles on the side that was lacking. Round penning him with the weak side towards center helped to strengthen and beef up the weakened side as well. PS- The exercises in Brenda's article about how to reform a hollow backed horse could do nothing but good... I have a TB and I need a little help. I've recently discovered that neither of my saddles fit him. He has uneven back muscles due to a broken leg from 5 years ago. I've had him for 4 years now. The muscles on the right side of his back are much larger than the muscles on the left side. This is causing the saddle to fit fine on the smaller side but dig into his shoulder behind the withers on the right side. He also had pulled his back out and is resting for the nest week or two, doctor's orders. But, I won't be able to put the saddle back on him. I have no problem riding him bareback once he has recovered, but eventually I'll want to go trail riding and need to saddle him again. Can anyone help me with some exercises to build up and even out his back muscles? I've been riding him in my 4beat saddle that used to fit him very well. But as those muscles got bigger and bigger the saddle no longer fits properly. I'd appreciate any help you can give. I wish there was an area for non-gaited horse problems, because I think many of us have those too! Thanks! Tina
