Yes, I had the same thoughts. No breeder should push off a new weanling for travel. Seems to me like he's anxious to make the almighty dollar and yank the baby away from the mother too soon. The colt needs to be fully weaned, eating hay and grain, and not missing mother atall. I'm thinking no earlier then 6 months and well weaned for a trip like he has to take. I'd really take a hard look at this breeder.

Yep, those sand storms are just like what they showed in the film. My Hubby and son both said that in some places they can last for days. The sand is so fine that it seeps into everything. That's why camels can litterally close their noses and ears, and the long eyelashes protect their eyes. Getting back to the colt..... Tell me if I'm wrong. Weren't you going to wait till April to get one? That would mean that this colt would be 6 months old by then. Do they expect you to buy it now and pick it up? Do they want you to pay for the colt now, not knowing if it will survive, especially since this winter seems to be going to very cold and long? If that's what they want, will they guarrentee that this colt will survive and you will have a good, healthy colt come April? I think there many questions in this deal. I aree with Tessie. Why do they want you to get this particular colt now? Are these the same people that have the 18 month old colt that hasn't been handled much? It's certainly your decision, but if it were me, I would have lots and lots of questions for them, that I would want some straight up answers to. JMO

Appy, The seller is trying to sell a 3 month colt, unweaned, and barely eating hay? Warning bells are going off in my head. I can't imagine a reputable breeder trying to sell a foal this young-shipping would be an absolute nightmare even for an experienced hauler. The baby would be screaming it's head off until it exhausted itself, refusing to eat, and you might end up with an incredible vet bill to keep the poor thing alive. Can't imagine a seller doing this unless they are desperate-are the horses starving due to poor management? Bad weather?

Appy at least AARP waited until you are almost 50 to send you stuff. I haven't even made 30 yet and I get invations to join! Sorry I don't know much about the Spanish Mustangs so I don't have anything to contrubuite there. I know you will find the right one at the right time. Sometimes we have to see what is out there before we know what we want! Happy Hunting! and Happy Birthday!

I like that movie also. They actually used about 5 or 6 different horses to make the film. They used body paint on them to make them look the same. The ASPCA will only allow the animals to work a particular number of hours per day, ergo, the number of horses needed. When you watch the film again, you can see suttle differences. It was based on a true story and the owner rode him in many cross country races. Yep, he was a true mustang. He is said to have had more heart and guts than any horse the man ever owned.

I like the color of the first one, but he seems to be at a ackward stage or jut not a good picture. I think Hildago was really a Overo Paint, by was supposed to be a Mustang for the movie, I just stopped at the DVD store and ordered that movie to put in my LQ trailer cause hubby is always wanting to watch that DVD and I love it to, anything is better than John Wayns all the time.

Well Appy I'll reply. Are the Spanish Mustang's gaited? Are you looking for gaited? I thought you wanted an Appaloosa. The left front foot of the first horse appears to be a bit deformed, or is that just the dirt that's making it appear that way. Have you seen videos of both horses? The first one appears a bit thin with a pot belly - maybe wormy? I love the color though. Which one you choose would depend on whether you wanted to start with an older one or younger one. You seem to prefer the babies, and I'm thinking maybe the older stallion that hasn't been handled much might be more then you want. Anyway, good luck on your choice.

I try to be as open minded as I can about as many things as I can. Different strokes for different folks. It would be strange world if we all loved the same things, right? I've kinda followed the,' Appy saga to find the right horse', since the young TWH you had. I came to the message board about the time you were looking for a gaited horse. Seems you had just sold your former appy at that time. Seems we all go through the, oh darns and the, I wish I wouldnas, when it comes to horses. I know I have. Once we come to the conclusion that we made the right choice at the time and can move on, then things can fall into place from there. Once you get to the place where you want to be, with the choice you've decided is best for you, then that's what matters. I guess I'm philisophacal about things. I usually see a glass as half full, not half empty. Many here are pulling for you. Maybe they just aren't as blabby about it as me.l1
