Coming in late to this topic. Found it while searching for a plastic saddle. Many, many years ago my mother and step-father were close friends of Billy Vandegriff the founder of the plastic saddles. When I was 10 I was promised the plastic saddle that Mr. Vandergriff had made for his daughter who was later killed in a riding accident. If I remember right the saddle was a close replica of Roy Rogers' Rose Parade saddle. It had some repair work done to one of the fenders. Mr. Vandegriff passed away from cancer before I got the saddle and his widow supposedly sold the saddle to Roy Rogers. I tried locating the saddle a few years ago...just wanted a picture of it. I remember waiting at the mailbox for it. It was a big disappointment to a 10 year old when I was told I would not be getting it. I contacted the Roy Rogers Museum and got a very terse and short reply that they never heard of it and they did not answer my other emails. Just wondering if anyone out there has heard of a similar saddle. Pat

sorry, don't believe it to be All Western Plastics, Inc. I was told about a shop in the 50's making plastic saddles in Chattanooga, Tenn. called Western Saddlery - someone in Tenn. is checking that out for me. Didn't know about All American Plastics. Inc. Will check that out too. thanks.

HI, I believe that I have an All Western Plastics saddle/breastcollar and chaps. It is turqoise and white and have ridden it only in parades or costume classes. Would like to know more about it as I bought it 20 some years ago in a tack store in Bozeman, Montana. What would be it's approximate value? thanks, Cheryl 970-309-1104

I never heard of a plastic saddle and didn't know Roy & Dale rode in them. One was his parade saddle. I checked out the auction at Christiees and one saddle sold for $22,500 and they were made in the late 40's because leather was in short supply because of the war. Interesting history .

Need the horse for that saddle? I ran across this on line. Caught my husband eyeing it up. His mare crosses back to Allen's Gold Zephyr 5 times. He's not coming to my house!!!! http://www.filmbuffonline.com/FBOLNewsreel/wordpress/2010/06/28/roy-rogers-stuffed-horse-trigger-up-for-auction/

I think I am going to start looking for plastic saddles at yard sales : ) That is def. something I would probably just pass by thinking it was "junk" I had never heard of it before.

Guys, I have one of the plastic saddles. It has a matching breast band, but I don't know much about it. I hear Roy Rogers was the companies spokesman. I think there were only 60 made. Roy Rogers had six of them, I think. Any info would be great. The company was All American Plastics Inc. I can be reached at (423) 667-8781 Thanks

Hi Eric, It's been several years since you first posted this, but have you had success finding any saddles? My wife's grandfather made them, and I'm trying to do some research into where all the saddles are. Please let me know if you had any luck. Thanks, Mike

Roy Rogers plastic saddle sold at auction for $41,250. Western Plastics, Inc made only around 60 plastic saddles, and Roy Rogers was a spokesman for this company. Good luck in your search!

Would a Plastic Saddle be like getting into a hot car/truck and having the fake leather stick to your legs and all.. That kinda' hurts.. what is it called in cars/trucks Naugahide? I just wondered if it would have the same effect?

I found some info concerning this company on a site about Roy Rogers. According to it the company only made around 60 or so of these saddles before disappearing. That makes you think they would be hard to come by and if so wouldn't they be considered collector's item, probably not cheap. Good luck.
