well once the baby is born - it should be much easier to tell who Dad is.. as the two horses you speak of are totally differant as far as looks and body size etc.. ( I think ) good luck to you!!!

Well, the vet was out and apparently the mare is about ready to drop maybe as soon as tonight!!!!!!! This narrows it down some, It can't be the Stb, she didn't have him long enough. this leaves three choices, My Paso gelding, or my sisters halflinger gelding. Or someones stallion got loose and got her across our electric fence, and we don't know of any horses that close to us. Has anyone heard of a Stallion having a third testicle that got missed, a friend of mine said in rare occurrences it's happened. If so this might explain why my Paso acts up so bad sometimes. I just can't believe this happend, I thought for sure they were going to say it was a false pregnancy.

Yes, a check for Cushings is done by bloodwork. My Appy was tested for it. I took him in to the vets early in the morning and they pulled blood. They kept him all day with no food and pulled blood again when I picked him up in the evening. I think it might be similar to a fasting blood glucose test for diabetes. Fortunately the test was negative for Cushings. He's just fat.

I really don't know. I am not sure how they check for cushings. I believe it would be a blood test. I think most vet checks are very basic. This happened 10 years ago and at the time it was the first I had heard of it. Really did not realize until much later that it is called cushings disease. The pony actually belonged to my sister's daughter and she is the one that talked to the vet. She just told me it was caused by the pituratary(?spelling) gland. It wasn't until later when I read an article about cushing's that I realized that is what the pony had. Her symptoms started slow and progressed. She first started with false pregnancy then later she did not shed out normally and would stand in pond (realized from article that is from running a temperature and that is how they cool theirselves off). Then she started breathing really funny. At times she would lay down and not be able to get herself up. We felt very sorry for her and she was such a sweet pony. Her name was not Peaches for nothing. The vet was treating her, but did not seem to help. One day I was at my sisters and I looked over at the pony and I told my sister she had to do something. That the pony had dead eyes. And she did. She looked horrible. No life in her eyes at all, just black dead eyes. She called the vet and had him come and put her down. I certainly don't think that is what is happening to the horse you sold and fully expect to hear good news on Monday or asap. Will keep my fingers crossed. But weird things can happen. On a lighter note. We bought a horse and was told there was a small chance she could be pregnant. There stallion and gotten through his fence one afternoon and gotten to there herd of mares. Turned out he bred 6 of 10 horses that one afternoon. Our horse was one that he bred. Poor stallion, no wonder he got out, with that many in season at one time, it had to have driven him crazy.

Oh, G, I sure hope that's not the case, she's a sweet little mare and only 6yrs old. These people seem to really think she's in foal, guess they will be finding out Monday whats going on. I'm sure they'll be letting us know one way or the other. One other thing she had a vet check before she went to Texas, wouldn't something like cushings come up in that?

We went through something similiar with an older pony we had. Thought the pony was pregnant and it did turned out there was a donkey that possibly could have bred, but the original owners really did not think so and were also perplexed. The pony got a big stomach and bag swelled. She adopted a goat we had and acted like it was her baby. We had her checked and it she was not in foal. Then thought it was a false pregnancy from adopting the goat and thought it a bit funny. Then she started showing other signs and symptoms. Turned out she had cushings. Certainly hope this is not the case with your horse and do not want to put a down side to the whole episode, but there can be other causes. What makes them think she maybe in foal? Keep us update.

Yeah, your right it is kind of funny, I just couldn't believe what I was reading from my sister. No their aren't any Rambo's near us. We might be able to narrow it down more after they get a do date. As it is right now my sister thinks it may have been the standardbred. But there's just now way of knowing. 3 geldings 1 mare, all separated by electric fencing= pregnant mare

This is all vary perplexing to my sister and I. About 2 months ago my sister sold her solid palomino paint mare to a women in Texas. This was a horse she had for over a year. Anyway the new owner just emailed her today saying that their pretty sure that the mare is in foal, and the vet will be doing an ultrasound Monday. Luckily she's not mad, and is exited about the foal, (IF THIER REALL IS ONE) This is weird because all of our horses are turned out in their own areas and their all geldings. Now my 19 yo Paso Fino acts like a stud sometimes and a few years ago he did mount one of the other mares. Is it possible we still have a stud and don't no it??? I was researching Proud cut geldings and it said they can't reproduce. Is that true???? what else could be going on with one of our geldings??? I guess if the foal comes out racking it could either be from my Paso or her Standardbred, or it may look like her little Halflinger. Those are the three it could be out of. Guess we'll no more after the ultrasound Monday, I really hope this is a fake pregnancy. I would hate to think that we added to the already over populated horse world.
