Sounds like the pressure is really on them! That is good news. I am really hoping this will definitely help to bring the change that has been so long sought for.

JGee- I am active on the fb page For the Tennessee Walking horse and friends with Andrea (who writes the blog) Keystone /millerscoors will not sponsor the Celebration. The local vendors- including the local ford dealership have not - and probably will pull out. Cracker Barrel pulled out in 2002.

I saw this on Facebook. It has updates about this issue along with some step by step instructions of who to write/call/fax and what to say and what not to say.

I also received a response from Ford Motor Company. It is very good of them to send responses. I'm sure they have had to send many of them over this matter.

The response:

My name is Terry-Lynn and I’m with the Ford Customer Relationship Center your e-mail was escalated for my review and handling.

I did view the video and I agree that it is very disturbing.  After some very detailed researching I did verify that Ford Motor Company is not a sponsor of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.  The Mid-South Ford Dealers is the local association of the Ford dealers and they are independent from the company.  The sponsorship falls under their jurisdiction and was made independently from Ford.

I do want to thank-you for contacting Ford Motor Company with this information.

Have a good day.

Sincerely,
Terry-Lynn

Thanks, Lisa. Where are you finding the info on Celebration sponsorship? There is nothing on their webpages and their FB page is empty.

That's good news about Oregon. Maybe more clubs will follow suit and cancel padded classes. Small steps in the right direction are better than no progress.

Unfortunately, the majority of the sponsors are still hanging in there, according to this latest article: http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120521/NEWS21/305210017/Tennessee-Walking-Horse-celebration-keeps-most-sponsors?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE

TWH industry is BIG business to the area, and the individuals quoted all talk about it being "an isolated incident". I dont quite understand how they regard it an isolated incident when the "top trainer" is employing these methods and winning--even a moron would then think, "duh, this is what you do to win".

Guess it will just keep the ongoing pressure from people who truely love and respect horses, and don't embrace the win at all costs mentality to make a difference...

JGee- I was just getting ready to post that information about Ford. What I can see- from some other posts on FB that Pepsi was really the only "national" sponsor- otherwise every other sponsor was pretty local- Including the Ford Dealership. I think Crackel Barrel might still be a sponsor though. I havent been able to confirm.

On a brighter note- The main Oregon TWH club has said no more padded classes at its shows.

The pressure needs to stay on these guys- it will be tough once the hoopla dies down over the video- but we need to keep the pressure on!

I sent a message yesterday to Ford via the Public Affairs tab at the corporate website thanking them for withdrawing sponsorship of the Celebration.  Here is the reply that came today (on a Sunday!):

"Hello Jean,

This is Micky from Ford's Customer Relationship Center.  I had the opportunity to read your email regarding Ford's sponsorship with The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.

Please be informed that Ford Motor Company is not a sponsor of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. The Mid-South Ford Dealers is the local association of Ford dealers and they are independent from the company. The sponsorship falls under their jurisdiction and was made independently from Ford.

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company.

Sincerely,
Micky
Customer Relationship Center
Ford Motor Company"

At the Mid-South Ford Dealers website, I could not find a link to a customer support page.  There don't seem to be any corporate sponsors at the Celebration's website.  Were there any listed prior to ABC's report?  It's been years since I've looked at it.

Jean

Ya, God bless her. I could not have done something like that. I'd have been beating the stuffing out of those people and probably been in jail for assault.

Please do send notes thanking them! Send the Humane Society one too. I feel so bad for the girl doing the videoing. You can hear her at one point gasp- it had to be so hard to stand there and watch it. Its one of those for the greater good things- but so hard to do.

You should be able to view it on line- I hope so because I couldnt stay up to watch it - I hope to shortly. I did see the humane society video- heartbreaking is too mild of a word- Fords' logo is off of the celebration website - so while we do not have confirmation that they have pulled it- it looks like they have on the surface! Will let you guys know if I hear anything. My FB page is all about what was on tv last night- everyone but the BL'ers are disgusted and angry and want justice for the horse and pads and chains to go away - The BL'ers are just pointing fingers and saying the usual- its them not us stuff. Sigh.

My horse was tortured like the one in the video, and it broke my heart to hear that horse cry. I sent an email to Pepsi to let them know how much I appreciated their courage to take a stand, and that I will be a customer for life. I am writing Ford next. Please send a note of congrats to the Pepsi folks!

Whew! I watched it just now, too late last night, so recorded it. Very hard to watch, but if it will make believers of many who were in denial, then needs to be seen durong primetime.

My hats off to ABC, Brian Ross and Humane Society for this new push for ending this horrid crime against these beautiful gentle creatures that we all love!

I sent Ford an email under their Public Affairs tab. There is no guarantee i will get a response but if i do, I'll let you know. They will make a tremendous stand for the Tennessee walking horse and all horses if they will pull their sponsorship at this event. If we educate them, they cannot claim ignorance to the problem. C'mon FORD!!!

I say WE SHOULD!!!!!!!!

I watched the ABC Nightly news with Diane Sawyer, but didn't hear the part you speak of. I tuned in about 8 mins late, so could have missed it. Nightline will be recorded here! Doesn't come on till 11:35 pm here, so I will check in the morning.

Thanks Lisa for the notice!!!!!!
