uughhh. this is a disgusting practice! How can anyone who says they love horses.(or even remotely "like" horses) be involved in this horrible abuse??   :hb :

It is impossible to discuss anything with the BL people other than how much BL is the most amazing thing on earth and their horse is the TWH all others are culls. (excuse me I need to go throw up...) I have tried to discuss this stuff with BL supporters and their new battle cry is you must support the whole breed. If BL dies the breed dies- is another one- which is crap- everyone knows its crap. BL is dying. It is a slow death, painful for us on the outside wanting to die quickly and go away- but it is getting smaller. The shows are getting smaller. There is much panic among them as to how to get more people into the "sport" They have alienated so many flat shod people with their horse is the best horse stuff that you can barely have a civil conversation, much less a debate or educational discussion. If I hear one more time a chain is just like a bracelet on us- I will scream! Of course we are not to use the pads are like high heels on women and ruin the feet legs back etc. Oh no you can compare humans then. Now they are attacking the people who ride their horses barefoot- we are evil we are cruel we are hurting our horses by not putting shoes on them... blah blah blah. The canter is NOT a rocking chair canter- the rider is thrown all over the place- the last time I sat in a rocking chair I didnt feel like I was on a ride at the fair being jerked around all over the place. There has been some great strides this year in the battle to stop soring. The USDA has been at more shows this year and they are targeting the BL people and checking those horses closely. They recently showed up at a NWHA show and there were NO HPA violations. NONE. A totally clean show. Of course no pads/chains were there either.

I think the movement of the big licks has been sought after by some for so long that they do not see it as anything but expected thus admired. I had one say to me, while watching, "the power gave them goosebumps"! OMG, all I wanted to do was cry and be sick. The division between the natural groups and the big licks is so wide I don't see it narrowing in my lifetime. I even had one old fellow who rode the BL's early in his life say, "the groups need to come together" (for the better turnout at the shows), but he doesn't realize its torture and the natural groups will never tolerate that! Its impossible to discuss this with one of these old schoolers without losing them as friends. I would do it, but they are my husbands parents good friends and....

Folks like that must be so deep into this competitive show stuff that they don't have eyes to see just how ridiculus things have become. Any five year old child could see that's not normal......I'll say no more.

A short clip of a Big Lick "canter"; this is probably one of the saddest excuses of a canter in the horse world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGWyH3uL9LE&feature=related

He's such a gorgeous horse. And that awful woman riding him just keeps yanking on his mouth to get his front end off the ground. It breaks my heart that there is such ignorance in this world.
