He looks GREAT for an old timer! Gotta love the old guys! My guys are given free rein of our yard area also so they can keep up with the "mowing" and they hang with us too.

I'm diggin' the Appy...of course. :D

Looks good for an "Old man". I am so glad that he is with you. Looks as though he has many stories to tell about all the "humans" that he has had in his life. I can imagine the horses standing in the shade of some large tree exchanging stories snorting and laughing about some of the things that have happened along the way. They might even ROtGLTBO ( roll on the ground laughing their bu## off). r1

Thanks guys, y'all are all so kind - don't let that sweet face fool you, I'm the only one who can brush him in those, let's just say, 'tender places' and clean his sheath!, lol!  he's a doll baby for me but a real b@5*@! to anyone else even trying to put his halter on or taking a brush to his tail :D - he will nicker and nicker for me at times, even with Stroker near by.  I didn't plan it this way, he just worships the ground I walk on and I don't know why - just the way it is I suppose.  I don't believe these things can be forced, they are, or they aren't and either way is fine with me.

Karen:  I PROMISE you will see the pathetic attempted results of my novice application of the hair doo-dad thingy in Strokers' hair soon.  They are laying out flat right now so they will be straight, they were a little coiled up when I took them out. I am now in the process of evaluating the intricacies on how best to apply them. I hate not having a way to harass y'all with photos, but fear not, for I will soon have a new phone and you'll be sorry you asked ;)...but, at least you'll have something to laugh at and poke fun about.

And by the way:  anyone looking for great uses from your 'old man':  consider this when you've forgotten that all-important koozie:

T.

Loved these photos and descriptions of Comanchee, aka "Old Man".  He is adorable!  "How sweet it is, to be loved by you!!!"  I would love to be him when I am old!  (don't tell anyone but I am already there...)

Tina, we now want to see pictures of Stroker!  I know you said your camera was broken, but how about Marks phone?  Put those "do dads" in his mane and post some for us some, okay????

Oh, but you have made up for any hardness ever visited on him before.  He is obviously at home now :).  Horses cherish the good moment, and the Old Man is getting plenty of those!

I have an old man too. He's not gaited; he's a QH. He is also 31. Here's to old horses...

...of 'The Old Man'.
He does deserve some attention from the group - gaitedness not required to honor an Old horse that has served his human friends well. My hat tips to him. Thanks for sharing some nice pics and giving us all a moment to remember friends that for whatever reason are missing from our lives. May the memories of them feel better than than they used to as we know down deep that time marches on toward a great reunion.

Here's to 'The Old Man' and to Time.  r1

Tina, he is a handsome fellow even in his old old age.  I can see the personality in him hanging out with your father-in-law and see why you love him.  He's a lucky boy to spend his remaining years under your love.  We want pics of Stroker, too!

I felt that way about my first horse (QH), who I owned for 21 years before he died at the age of 26.  I've had several since then, but none that I ever loved or missed as much as him.

Comanche sure is a looker and so well taken care of.  It is a good thing that you are the one now responsible for his care.  Thanks for sharing your pictures, I am sure it is hard to look at the one with your friend missing.  Just glad we have pictures to keep memories alive.

And one more of me on Comanche, my other best friend Amanda on Angies' mare 'Daisy'.  That's Angie's Appaloosa horse 'Apache' with his head turned away, she's the one taking the photo.  This was one of our last few trail rides together as 'The Three Stooges'.

I don't normally share these, but I feel some of y'all are like family and I know many here will appreciate them.

...of 'The Old Man'.  I'm always talking about Stroker, but this is Comanche, AKA 'The Old Man'.  He is 31 years old this year, and a complete mutt if ever I saw one.  Obviously he is retired now, he is only 13.2 but would trail anything under the table - he was a maniac in his time and would ride until he died if that is what you asked of him - he is not gaited but has one of the smoothest lopes I've ever had the pleasure of riding.  He was an ex-rodeo pony turned-trail-riding-connoisseur and the former pony of my best friend Angie so he is extra, extra special.

He was boarding at her farm when his owners abandoned him years ago, Angie took him in, then he became mine.  He is old, ornery (rightfully so), missing some teeth and will only let me and a couple of other people handle him.  If he cannot see me or Stroker, he has a difficult time and feels a bit abandoned but has been managing well when me and Stroker go on trail-rides.  He follows me around everywhere like a dog, and will loiter around the back porch when turned loose waiting for me to come out of the house, or just watch me or hang around like an 'ol dog while I grill food outside.  He also loves to get under the carport when it's raining if they have the run of the whole farm.

He's old and eats a TON of feed to keep him up this nice, but I figure he deserves it.  He will die and be buried here good Lord willing.  I just thought he deserved to be seen, he has had a hard life and was a great, great pony in  his time.  I thoroughly enjoyed our trail riding years together and I'm thankful to have had the experience with him and still enjoy his ornery old ass every day! ;)  This photo was taken Wednesday, September 07th 2011 (with Marks' phone of course)
