Mary Ellen, our prayers are with you and your family.  Bob sounds like a wonderful man.  Like Sdlpl, my husband also brings me a cup of coffee every morning and has the twenty years we've been married.  He never misses it.  It is so the little things we love about them.  I pray that Bob recovers to bring you tea once again.

Dixie

Mary Ellen, your touching stories have left me with a tear in my eye.. you have given us a picture of the very special man you've shared your life with.

Many years ago, my husband suffered a stroke (at the age of 39) and required brain surgery to repair what's called an Arterial Venous Malformation (a tangle of veins in the brain that he was born with and suddenly began to leak). Without guarantee of success, we waited in ICU to see if surgery would heal him and what residual damage he might have. The bleed was located in his speech center and he's a lawyer.. making a living with his voice which at this point was useless. We were terrified for ourselves and our three young children. What would the future hold? Time passed then as if in a fog.

In our case, miraculously, he healed nearly completely in time.. with very little permenant damage. We recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and he still practices law.

I only tell you this to encourage you to keep hope alive. Miracles can happen.. I've seen them. I will continue to pray that your beloved husband will be wholly restored to you.

Mary Ellen, I am so heartbroken when reading your recent posting.  You and your Bob sure enjoyed sharing life and the simple things like your early mornings.  My husband brings me coffee in the morning too so I know how special that is.   PLease don't give up on getting your husband back just yet.  Prayers for you both.

Bob is out of ICU again. He had surgery last Thursday to replace the bone flap that had been removed from his skull the day after the accident and the surgery went well. The doctor is hoping that putting the bone back in will help him wake up, but so far there is no change in his mental state, he is completely unresponsive.

Every morning for the past 22 years, Bob has brought me a cup of tea in bed. It doesn't matter if we are at home, trail riding, on vacation, or visiting friends or relatives. It is a ritual that he never broke. He brings himself a cup of coffee and we sit in bed with our beverages and talk and cuddle for a half an hour. At home, the cat always joins us (we are on cat # 2; the cats seem to sense that this is an important ritual also.) If one of us has to leave the house early for some reason, the other wakes up early also so as not to miss this time together.  Bob felt that this time together is so important, that whenever we were invited to a wedding, Bob would give the bride and groom a teapot as a wedding gift.
Bob truly loves animals, especialy horses. He has a bookmark that he made as a kid, it has a drawing of a horse's head on it and a caption that reads "Books are almost as nice as horses." When ever he trims or shoes any horse, he always says hello to it and pets it on its neck before reaching for a foot. He always says "thank you" to the horse when it gives him its foot, and he always pets it on the neck and thanks it when he's done. He is so patient with horses that are afraid and takes the time to show his clients how to work a difficult horse to make the next appointment easier. He made a garden pond for me and we put some goldfish in it. When we asked a master gardener how to care for the fish over ther winter, he was as appalled as I was when she said "The easiest thing to do is flush them down the toilet and get new ones in the spring." Instead, he set up a stock tank in the heated garage so the fish could live in there over the winter. We have some goldfish that are over 10 years old now. Its so hard to comprehend that, regardless of the outcome of this, the man I married is gone.
Please continue to pray for us, pray that Bob will wake up and come home and that we will somehow be able to have a new life together, whatever it may be.

I adore those photos...they sure give us a window into the soul of this very special man.  He is being prayed for continually from here is SC also.  Mary Ellen, we are all deeply heartbroken over the news he's taken a turn for the worse and are so anxious to hear better news!

I'm sorry to read this as well. It makes the heart sink with disappointment. I had no idea things had made this terrible turn. Thank you for keeping us posted, Karal.

God be with Bob and Mary Ellen and help us to know how we can best share this burden with them and for them. Prayers continue.

Very sorry to hear this news...redoubling prayers for healing. May G*d watch over them both, and may they know how many are holding them up.

This was posted on the MTRA page. I thought I would pass it along. Please send out more prayers.  My heart is sick with this update.  Praying for healing! Praying for strength!

Bob is not doing well. He is back in the ICU. He has a bad respiratory infection and is in a much deeper coma now. The doctor's don't know if the deterioration in his mental state has to do with the infection or just a combination of all the trauma he went through.

Mary Ellen

What special pictures of a person who is evidently a very gentle soul.  May God bless and keep you in His loving grace as you walk the path He has prepared for you both.  I'm wondering what stories Bob may share when he comes back to this earth plane. . .

That is what I call true companionship.  Hope Bob is still holding his own and will be up and about soon.  Still in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh man, I love that!  Reminds me of snoozing with my dogs.  No wonder the Indians called them "big dog".

Mary Ellen sent another picture of Bob. His horse had laid down for a snooze and Bob decided to take a snooze with her.

Still sending up prayers for Bob and you, Mary Ellen. Love these pictures, thanks for providing them.  They surely do give us more of a sense of who Bob is.  So happy to hear of his improvement!  I know it must be agonizingly slow-going for you, though.

God be with you both.

Mary Ellen, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and Bob at this time in your lives.  I can tell by those few photographs that he is quite an incredible man.  The one of him leaning against the horse laying down is especially touching.  May White Horse be guiding his journey every step of the way.
