Rear wheel drives handle just fine in the snow and ice, as long as the driver is careful!  Give plenty of room between you and other traffic, so someone else's mistake doesn't take you out.  The anti-lock brakes used now are not on your Suburban.  Without anti-lock brakes you have to tap and release, tap and release, tap and release to slow your vehicle without sliding on snow or ice (another good reason to give plenty of room to other traffic).  You have to "plan" your stops by beginning to slow down early.  Slow starts, slow stops.  Take your time!

I have driven rear wheel drive trucks for 30+ years and although our snow and ice in Arkansas is not bad, it is slippery!  I do keep a set of cable chains for the back wheels if it ever got bad enough, but I've not ever used them.

Be sure the trailer you get has brakes, too!

Great Buy btw.  My sister had one of those and she actually cried when her husband wrecked it.  She said it was the best, most versatile vehicle she ever had.
