My best friend of 18 years "Chance" was just diagnosed with DSLD/ESPA. Here is the post I had just wrote under the ask a farrier section

We took Chance to an Equine Hospital a few hours away on Saturday. Symptoms were coming back and some never left. I was tired of guessing.
Chance without a doubt has DSLD. With the lameness exam he was 2/5 lame in the front with fetlocks starting to drop and 4/5 lame in the back with dropped fetlocks.
Palpation of the suspensory ligaments revealed thick hardened areas.
This is incredibly difficult to deal with.
I have had Chance for 18 yrs this month. My Grandma bred him and owned both of his parents. She gave him to me as a yearling when I was 16. I did all the training myself and he has been with me during the difficult teenage years, moving out on my own, getting married and the 11 yrs we have had kids.
He is my 5 kids best friend and an invaluable therapy tool for our fosterkids that come and go.
He is still on the AAKG/Jiaogulan that we started a couple months ago. The only thing we can do now is shower him with love and keep him as comfortable as possible until he tells us he is ready to go. How I am going to make that decision I have no idea but I pray I have the strength when the time comes.
Words cannot express the pain I feel....
Please keep us in your prayers as we deal with this very difficult situation.
