Thanks again for your kind thoughts and prayers. It really helps to share my grief. It comes and goes, and the support from my friends incl. you really help. I am looking at horses, which is strange, but necessary. I have a big hole in my heart and day that is reserved for horses. God has surrounded me in his precious peace that passes all understanding, even when my girl was fighting her infection. Kathy

So sorry to hear about your horse. But you did your very best for her and loved her to the end. My deepest sympathy goes out to you.

How sad to lose a friend.  At least she had you there.  I'm sure that meant more to her than any of us realize.

Oh, Kathy! (((((((HUGS))))))))

I lost my buckskin TWH gelding, Bogey, to a car accident last July - while I was riding him. When I read you had just lost your mare, it brought fresh tears to my eyes! bh

I completely understand how sad and empty you feel right now. Lord knows, I still do - even though I've got a new horse Stetson, who is WONDERFUL!! (that's him in my Avatar) I still miss Bogey.

My advice is to do exactly what you're doing now. Why not share some of your wonderful memories of her with us here, now? When did you first see her? First ride her? Tell us about her habits and quirks? It really helped me to have friends who would listen to me.

You will heal. Time is a terrific balm. And when you're ready, a new horse buddy will come into your life.

We're all here for you. Welcome.

~Rita

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mare, Kathy. I cannot even begin to imagine what an emotional roller-coaster you have been through, even continue one.

This is any horse owner's worst nightmare... And to lose out in the end... Horrible, to say the least...

Sending you thoughts & prayers that things will get easier for you...

Hugs,

--Debbie in GA

Kathy, What a nightmare for you. I have tears falling just trying to imagine how sad and lost you are without your beautiful mare. May you always remember her spirit, and let it get you through the difficult times. God will send the comfort and the memories you need when you least expect. It's not coincidence.

Three weeks ago my wonderful walkaloosa mare died. She had a small puncture on her leg on Easter, which I had the vet treat immediately( she was boarded in pasture at my vet. Each day for 2 weeks it got worse, it was a surreal nightmare that I kept thinking would get better the next time I'd see her. She was in the vet barn the 3rd day and stayed there moving to ICu the next week. It was like being in the hospital with a sick child, I stayed all day for days just comforting her in her stall. It ended up being a resistant bacteria related to the flesh eating bacteria. It nailed her, she was brave, wonderful and kind throughtout the ordeal.

I go up and down in emotions and am having a hard time this past couple days. Thanks for listening. Kathy
