Whatta dear, you have a great winning attitude that very few could grasp after what you and Neal have been through. Just keep keeping on, as I know you will, and yes your body isn't back to normal and may never be, but thank the Good Lord, you are alive, can walk and can help your sweet Mom and others like us here on GOG. We all need to be sooooo thankful for what we have and I know you are! I just listened to a great book - The Outside of a Horse. Interesting and inspirational, but a light and quick read. Anyone else read it?

Wow. Thanks for asking! Can you believe its been 1.5yrs since my last surgery? And, can you believe that after that surgery, I didn't get released to walk without the fracture boot til February 2011? I was able to have just a few weeks of therapy in February and then my poor mom had a surgery that nearly killed her and left her unable to walk. My dear niece took care of her until April of 2011 then i moved in with her and stayed through July. At that time, she was able to get around on a walker and had a leg brace. Since then, I spend almost every week day taking her to exercise classes and physical therapy. While she is being taken care of during those appointment, I walk. I'm slow and limpy but still, I walk. I carry a pedometer with me every day and I take whatever pain meds I need to keep me walking. I tell myself to walk because I can, walk to destress, all my steps are mine, pain is just pain, and devil, you ain't invited. Walking is my saving grace of the life routine I'm in right now. I've revisited Sparkpeople (thanks jake) website and I'm tracking my exercise and food. I started doing this in mid January and I've lost 12 lbs. I'm still about 70lbs heavier than I was before the wreck but I'm determined to rebuild my body as best I can. There are still some negatives I deal with. The ankle fusion and bone grafts took but my foot is not set in a neutral position. I walk on the outside of it mostly. My gait is awful. My foot looks like a claw and is arthritic and has a lot of nerve damage. I still can't squat, or kneel, or sit in a bath tub. My spinal fusion is holding but by spine is narrowing and I have lots of neck issues. My neuro doctor recommends surgery but I'm putting it off. My rotator cuff is not healed and I have trouble lifting my right arm while holding anything of much weight. That's pretty much the list, I guess. Even so, I'm walking . . . because I can. Maybe one day I'll be able to sit a horse but honestly, I think I'm going to have to put that life behind me. We'll see. Really, thanks for asking. It is hard to believe that healing can take so long and tho' I still have a way to go, I've come a long way, Baby! Here is the outcome of my foot (kinda gross, I know). That is the 'fixed' position. No movement at the ankle joint at all. Its like putting a shoe on a brick. I can't wear pull on boots at all any more. And, Imagine putting your jeans on with your shoe on . . . . that's what its like because I cannot point my toe. Hey, at least I still have it and I have to be grateful for my new swagger. Neal brought me home to spend the rest of the weekend with him. Molly is with us as well. I took a couple of short vids of she and I playing. She really is good for us. I hope to get the vids up so you can see how great she is at backing up. She is too funny and cute. Did you trim the hair from face near the inside of Gidget's eyes? I wondered if you decided to do that or not. It makes a big difference for Molly and keeps the drainage to practically none at all.

I'm so glad you have Molly with you. I'm certain the Lord provided that precious little dog to help you through all of this - it's amazing how healing they can be. Jake kids me because literally everywhere I go, I have at least two of our dogs right on my heels. I have to be careful when heading downstairs, because they've almost tripped me on several occasions. Right now they're laying at my feet - one 110+ chocolate lab, and one 12 lb. (maybe) monkey terror (she does have an adorable little monkey face. . .) Jake says she was born for one purpose: to be MY dog. I'm sure that's true of your Molly, as well. Your video of her reminds me of Gidget! Luv ya. Brenda

@ Whatta: When you get the cast off, best suggestion I can make. And it will help all the way around. Get some Arnafloura Gel, the stuff is wonderfull. It's Arnica in a gel base, increases blood flow and circulation, reduces swelling and inflammation, relieves pain and stiffness. Plus speeds healing. You just have to be sure to avoid any open cuts.

I don't know when I'll go home. Neal is being put on short time and will start working one week on, one week off. Dayum economy! Maybe I'll just lay here and leach off the mother for a while. l1 NOT! I'll go home as soon as I do better at getting up and around. For now, I'm only up for bathroom purposes. I think my butt is deflating from laying too much.

I am glad you have your little dog with you. Hope the pain is subsiding some, you are still in our prayers for a speedy recovery. I usually never watch video's either but I was walking through the house when DH had them on and I saw the Tobey Keith one, it was very funny.

I had to travel back to the hospital today to have the pain pump removed. It was no big deal but I do miss the numbing it was giving to some of my leg and foot. Oh well, it is post-op day 5 so I think I'll live without it. I'm still a bed dweller but this time I have a TV in my room and I spend my time watching country music videos (which I never watched before so they are all new to me). I tell ya, some of them are so funny! I love the Toby Keith Trailerhood video. I laugh myself to tears when the tornado happens. I hope you all have seen it. Its a hoot. Molly is here with me. I need to get a new digital camera so I can show you all some new pics of her. She's wonderful and she is a clown. Mom loves her, too and Neal misses her at home. Thanks again for your prayers and well wishes. You're still the BEST! Sharon

YAY! It's done! I've dreaded the surgery for so long that I think I exhausted myself while waiting for it to be off my plate. Thank goodness it is behind me. You guys are so great to walk this road with me, sometimes carrying me through the rough spots. I'm so grateful to call you my friends. I'm grateful too for Brenda to allow us a place on the board to share our own personal needs in the form of prayer requests. You all have been generous with your prayers and in so many other ways. Thank you! I'm feeling very doped and kinda sick to my stomach. I've been sleeping - ALOT! Hurting some too. Neal's sis stayed 2 nights at the hospital with me. She is such good company. I'm now staying at Mom's and Neal comes here to 'date' me. I'll go back to the surgeon in 2 weeks and while I wait to see him again, I will do NOTHING and keep my leg elevated every possible minute. I feel like the bone grafts will take and the fusion won't be too much to get over where it comes to my stride or my ride. Still looking forward to EF! You guys are THE BEST!!!!
