Dear All,

I look around and realize that many of us are juggling far too much, concerned with far  too many issues and challenges, and we've lost our joy. Like many of you, much has been transpiring for me, personally, the past two years that has left me continually waiting for 'a better day' to arrive. My sense of wonder has faded, as has my appreciation for the tremendous blessings that God has provided. Some of you have noted the lack of new 'horse-pirationals' on site - one can only write these things from the heart, and mine has been often too burdened with negative thoughts, feelings and fears to produce inspiration for others during this particular season of my journey. (Yes, I happily accept your prayers - just ask for my 'highest and best good,' as I find what I WANT isn't necessarily what I NEED!)

In any case, this came via e-mail today. I don't know the author, so my apologies there. If anyone does know, please pass in the info.

God bless us all!

Brenda

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another.  Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are.

After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.  We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.  We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now.  If not now, when?  Your life will always be filled with challenges.  It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D. Souza who said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life.  But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid.  Then life would begin.  At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness.  Happiness is the way.  So treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.  Work like you don't need money,  Love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watchings.  God has given each of us a "gift" that we are to use to glorify His name!  Do you use yours?

Me Three!!!

Yes, we all need to take a moment and be in the moment.  Cause there is nothing like indulging in the moment to find your inspiration.

I think that is one of the greatest lessons of our horses.  They take us down the path of here and now.  Get caught up in your stresses on your steed,  you will find yourself at the peak of a buck or the edge of a bolt cause you told him there was a monster where there was none or maybe you were so caught up you did not notice that bear!!

But, be in the moment and ride your steed body mind and spirit... why the whole of nature is there to enrich you!!Just take a look at some of our photo's; take an ear to some of our stories.

Joy really is in the journey.  Enjoy that ride on your spiritual mountain, over your sparkling stream or in your sandy paddock or just in walking up to your pretty friend waiting in front of your little red barn,  gazing off to the great beyond...

Well said.  Reminds me of a couple of my favorite quotes.

"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances."

- -Martha Washington

"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Happiness is pretty illusive when it's attached to people or things.  It's great that our forefathers wanted us to have the right to pursue it.  But rather than chase after it, I think I'll go on ahead, hide around a corner, and hope it runs into me.  In the mean time, I read this every day........

Finally.......whatever is TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is RIGHT, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is ADMIRABLE, if anything is EXCELLENT or PRAISEWORTHY, think about such things.                                      Philippians 4:8.

Thanks PB, for your direction.  You know we want what's best for your heart.

:)beautiful and well said. :)I frequently remind myself that although i have lost three beloved horses gus cookie and jesse i feel deeply honored and blessed by god to have known them even if for such a short time.  I feel blessed to have my beloved charlie my twh gelding:) i try to think of at least one thing minuium to be thankful for each day. even something like im glad and deeply thankful both my arms work or im not blind or death or pysically handicapped. something as small as that puts a differnt light on my day the instant i think of it.:)

so many out there despertly want to ride or be around horses and cant so we should all feel  blessed for this.:)r1

I don't have great words like the writer of the email. None the less, I have philosphy that binds me to my way of being.

Mom always said to sh*t or git off the pot. I suppose that is equivalent to "Don't wait for life to live itself for you." At least that is the way I've always understood her words.

I'm simple and complicated. I love in "deed" probably too much as I make my daily phone calls - Can I do anything for you today? I like that about me. Even when I'm doing the juggle/struggle dance. If I can bring a smile or good word or make a load lighter for some one, I'm good with that.

I have a high regard for those willing to be accountable in word and deed. I want to live my life that way - accountable and hopefully a good role model for my kid at least. It ain't always fun but it's always right in the rule book of how Whatta should live. Just cuz it ain't fun, don't mean you can't have a good time. :)

I can't say that I am ever unhappy nor am I ever much offended. My blessings are never hidden under a clump of work. Right in my face, I see every single one. I hope I do. There sure are a lot of them. Too many to count and none that I deserve.

Sometimes I rant and rage. I might even have a brief pity party with a close friend. I find it good therapy. It sure beats being quiet and withdrawn. And by far beats being insincere with word or deed like the really "nice" folk do. s4 w2

I agree with the writer: Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So, I say to those who are feeling stagnant in their lives "Sh*t, or git off the pot".  And if you can't find encouragment in those words, maybe you can find motivation to seek a better day with a new attitude of gratefulness.

I also agree that time waits for no one. I might have a regret that I've missed a "ME" moment here and there. But I don't have any regrets that I've missed an opportunity to help, encourage, or love and support those who mean the most to me.

On a personal note, you have my prayers and my compassion.

God has given each of us a "gift" that we are to use to glorify His name!  Do you use yours?

Sure you do! Don't ever doubt that. :)

Love ya, Sister

By the way (a thought) I sure miss Glenn's philosophy on some things. I'll never forget his commandments which included "Don't be a d***".  l1 Remember that one?

This thread is a perfect example of why the MB is so special. I know its main purpose is to share information about our horses BUT it has meant much more than that to me personally. Even though I wouldn't know most on here if they walked in my door at this instant I still feel such a connection to everyone on here. It is so easy to sit back and think YOU are the only one going through such trials in your life and everyone else seems to have it so good. Truth is we all have our crosses to bear and until someone opens up and shares their woes it is easy to forget this. I do my best and feel my best when I can help someone else and forget about myself for a moment. Thanks to eveyone on here for their honesty and loving advice on all subjects from A-Z. God Bless All of You!

Wednesday we were really plagued by heavy thunderstorms, so I had the horses in the barn. Come evening, I got a bit worried about Humberto, and decided to leave them in the barn.

Thursday morning we woke up at 3 am listening to Humberto bearing down; at daylight we were looking at a foot of standing water and a shed blown over, blocking the entrance of the barn. After making it into the barn, we found all the stalls were soaking wet.

I'm counting my blessings: All the horses are fine; the water didn't make it into the house; we had planned on moving the little shed anyway; our generator provided the power we needed to keep the water and septic going; all our fences are still up; all the water standing is showing us exactly where we need to dig more drain ditches; only a few bales of hay got wet; hubby got to take the day off; unlike our neighbors', our roof stayed in place.

Today, the sun shines, the horses are all in the fields. Every step they take the water splashes up and they've given themselves a bath :D ... and it seems as though my wet feet keep the hot flashes at bay. Life is good!

All of what's been shared is why I've adopted Phil 4:11 ". . . for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. . . ."  as one of my life verses.  This verse ::) when I first read it as the way I've tried to live my adult life.  I've learned I usually can't change my circumstances very easily but I can change my attitude about them; so I might as well enjoy where I've been planted for the time that I have there - which of course, leads me to look around where I am and see my blessings.  Also, Phil 4:13 - "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."  Susan

Life sure can sure play some tricks on you. The old saying - Be careful what you wish for....can manifest when we least expect it. Having a business can be hard. Case in point:

Ex and i had a one horse carriage service. Instead of just staying with the one horse, we took the profits and expanded into doing hayrides. Four more horses (Belgians), their harnesses and 2 hay wagons were added to our inventory. Now we needed to hire help to drive the wagons if both of us were busy or off on a carriage job. Ex and i both had full time jobs but different shifts. I would come home from work and look at 20 messages on the phone. Customers who wanted to hire the carriage for weddings or events and tons of ppl wanting to schedule hayrides. So there were contracts to mail out and scheduling to do. What had started out as pleasurable had become hectic and i had become sleep deprived and had little time to spend with my riding horse. Money-wise i think we had been better off with the single horse. Keeping the Belgians fed and shod all yr round was a big expense. I dont know, i just felt like i was always at work.

I have learned to TRY to keep it simple. When the world gets heavy on my shoulders, a ride in the woods always makes me feel better. I say Geez why didnt i get out here sooner ?

Even the things ive accumulated can be a burden. I wanted them and i got them but some days i feel like most of the stuff i own needs oiling, painting, weeding or fixing! I wanted the pretty flower garden but now i gotta weed it, deadhead and thin it. What i did this yr was stop babying my perennial flowers so only the tough survive. When i start getting that ungrateful, over-burdened feeling i know its time to head to the woods!
