Beautiful day here!  (Especially after the snow last Sunday!)  Thought I would get Prowler out and work some on his clicker training.  We are working on "Stand".  He is to stand sill, all 4 legs, without a lead rope while I touch him all over and even walk away.  He does really great at first.  He'll stand perfectly still, I can touch, leave him and walk all around the round pen and he'll just watch me.  Feet still.  UNTIL I click and treat.  Then he is only interested in the treat.  Will not stand still for anything after that.  I'll send him away from me and make him walk around the round pen, whoa on command, turn, walk, etc.  After that for a few minutes, he is licking and chewing like crazy.  He will do the standing thing perfectly again until the treat is again given.  Same problem.

I never reward him when he is mugging me or not paying attention to me.  Any advice on how to make him keep focused on me and not the treats?

Try what's known as "irregular" patterning.  Sometimes, don't give the treat at all - mix it up - 3 x treat; 1x no treat.  Work up to more and more times no treat.   Even though you're not giving a food treat, you still have to reward him with praise, rubbing, no-engagement (walk away, turn away, no focus on him).

Also, remember to alternate sensitizing with desensitizing.  In other words, work on standing still 2x then work on something where he has to move - disengage hind/fore, sidepass, back, whatever.

I started backing Mo up, and calling him in to me.  He seemed to understand pretty quickly that when he's backed up to wait for me to "bring" his treat after the click.  I haven't tried what your doing yet however.  Maybe your guy doesn't trust that click always means treat.

Perhaps if you first teach him to keep his feet on a mat for his treats?  I recall reading about that online somewhere.

Good luck,
