I got to meet and talk to Susie at Eastfork in sept. at the Racking on the Edge ride when they had the speed racking races. She was taking pictures and I didn't see her ride. Don't know if Floyd was there or not, but she was doing fine and seemed in good health. Very nice person and it was nice to visit with her.

Boy Susie can sure sit a horse! It kept showing the speedometer on the wagon, but you could not see the reading! At least I couldn't. Would be curious to the speed. But those two certainly looked like a good team.

Pretty Boy Floyde is quite a creation. I've found another vid of him to share here since you introduced him to us here. I hope he and Susie are both doing great these days. Same for you and yours, Teresa.

You've got to love those Blues.  I've been looking for one, but they are all a country away and several thousand more than I can afford.

Teresa, I would LOVE to attend some of your trails rides.  The only problem, which is a biggie, is I don't fly (scared to death of airplanes).  I know if I drive I would have to bring my trailer.  That could get me in big trouble with hubby.  You know the old song, "Look what followed me home" . . . . .well I couldn't come home without another four-legged friend of the equine species l1

No, it's fine. I think some people do it not realizing they are doing it and then others just go to an extreme. I guess it would be a good work out for your stomach muscles...IDK..l1

We used to have this older guy who rode with us that would sort of lean back and stick out his left arm to his side. Now that was funny looking!!!

Sometimes you can off set yourself in the saddle and your horse will perform  better. My husband is bad to offset himself to the right side when he's training. It's the funniest thing when your looking at him from behind but he swears that it helps if the horse is off in it's gait. Sometimes people just get relax and when they feel the good lick they lean backwards as if sitting in a recliner.

He wasn't the horse I was thinking of.

This is just my opinion, ride it slow and in a consistent, true 4 beat gait, just like every other horse and never push it for speed. Let them come into it on their own. Daily conditioning is also what makes a horse get faster, knowing the horse well enough to know when you can let it go and when you can't. Time and patience

I don't think he came from Florida.  It would probably have been Kentucky or Tennessee.  The folks I bought him from purchased him about a year ago with the idea of reselling as they buy/sell gaited horses, predominately TWH.  The only negative that anyone had about Hemi is that he would not dog walk for them and felt they could not show him due to that.  When I went to look/ride him, maybe we clicked but I had no trouble getting him to walk.  He is a tri-colored gelding, maybe 15 hands.  Like I said I haven't ridden him since purchasing him but am itching to get out there.  I think the video I posted is in the Gaited Horse Discussion section.  It's not me riding him and his teeth definitely needed to be floated but this boy is dear to my heart already.

Sure, there is a trail ride in Indiana at Midwest in Norman, Indiana June 18th, 2009. Here's a link where you can read more about it. There will be a showcase of horses and I'm sure some racing will be going on too! I will be attending this ride and can't wait to see some new trails that I've not rode before.

http://www.midwesttrailride.com/index-1.html

I think they have a few campsites and cabins left but I would call today or make reservations online if you really want to attend.

He's definatly a Knock Out, like his name sake. Love the blue roans. Could you put something in the announcements when you have things going? I have MFTs, but we all can appreciate talented horses of any breed.

liteshodwalkers wrote: Hey Teresa,

Love the pic's and the video's.  I have a question for you.  I just recently purchased a speed racking horse (I have a short video - Hemi in another post).  I was told that he is a speed racker but have not "tried him out" yet since I got him home due to teeth floating, acclimating him to new surroundings, and most of all ALL THIS RAIN :(

As a owner and trainer of speed rackers how would you recommend I start with this boy.  He is 5-yo, part TWH and part Standardbred.  I was told he is from down south but don't know exactly where.

Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Bonnie

Did you buy this gelding from someone in Florida? If so, I can tell you a little bit about this horse. When did you get him? If it's the horse I'm thinking about he was at the big gun trail ride with new owner at the time, Rhonda. I think that was her name.

I've noticed him before. He's really impressive. I usually don't gravitate towards the roans, but how could you not lust after him?
