This is the speed racking stallion "Pretty Boy Floyde" and new owner Susie Laney with me tagging along. We zipped all through the campground while everyone pointed and laughed at us.

I've been on a speed racker. It's exhilarating! Those videos make me so excited to do it again!!

Yes, some will break gait and canter under pressure. Some horses are just born with speed and can handle the pressure and some aren't. The winner of it this year was a 3 year old...A Rowdy Mack Attack owned by Dino Swafford of Swafford Stables in Tennessee. He would be considered as being born with it. He also participated in 2008 as a two year old and came in 2nd. He is really an amazing stallion. Under normal circumstances you wouldn't see young horses of this age in speed classes that are this consistent but every once in a while you have one like Mack Attack come along. It takes about three or four years of consistent training to get a horse to hold together under pressure like this. It has a lot to do with the horses nerves too and if they can stand the pressure.

A question, Teresa... did I see a couple of the horses break gait and canter?  Does that happen often?  I'm curious how much training must go into these speed racking horses to achieve these amazing performances...

No, we just bracket each horse by pulling the rider's name out of a box and pair them up. We plan to purchase a speed panel display for the crowd to see their max speed in the future.

I really enjoy seeing those fast horses scream down the track! That's the only reason why we host the ride. We take home more friendships from that gathering and that's what makes it a success. On the day of the races, I'm just as nervous as the riders and I'm just standing and watching...lol

Those horses always amaze me. Thanks for showing them to us again. Do you keep records of speed each year?

While I am generally not a speed junkie, I have to admire the movement of these horses... spectacular! :) Double M was host to all?  What an event that must have been...
