I purchased the Gaited horse bible already and should be receiving it Monday. I plan on getting the Gaits from God DVD set as well. My question is, being pretty new to horses, will the book and DVD's be sufficient for beginners that don't have alot of riding experience? I love riding but have never had any training. I have been volunteering at the Eternal Freedom Horse Rescue in Chipley, FL every Saturday for the last two months. I've learned alot about the care of horses. I would like to learn more about riding to be more confident while riding. My problem is, when the horse won't do what I ask, I don't know what to do.

Congratulations on volunteering at the rescue. I am sure you do learn a lot there. I am not sure how to really answer your question. I have the Gaited horse bible and it will help you because it explains a lot about the horse and different gaits it can perform. I also have the DVD's and they are very educational as well. You will learn about good and bad bits, saddle fit and a lot of common sense about the horse. They are geared more to the gaited horse and their way of going but I think they both will help explain about the horse in general. If you go to the home page on the main menu, there are a lot of training articles there as well. I hope I helped a little bit and maybe soon, someone else will come a long and answer your question.

So glad you have joined us and the horse world. You will learn lots and will never stop learning something new. The book and dvd will help you to understand the gaited horse better. But.. it sounds like you also need something to help a beginner horse owner as well. I would suggest either lessons with a knowledgeable horse person or dvd's for beginners or both. You will need to learn what to do when a horse does something you don't want as bad habits are created very quickly and easily. Oh, also search internet for answers to questions as well. Read all you can and can watch youtube as well. But again be careful there as there are just as many people wrong things as their are correct things. Go with well known trainers, you should be able to find many articles and such on any subject you are interested in.

OH should also tell you. If you are having a hard time finding an answer to a problem you have encountered. Please feel free to ask the members here. We love to give advice! We love all questions, none are silly or too small for us to help. Too late for me to be typing!Make enough mistakes when I am wide awake. So I edited to correct the mistakes in my typing, there maybe more, but too tired to see them, Goodnight.
