I have some bio-thane tack which I have loved but honestly I feel like leather wears longer, which one do you prefer? I want to buy the R & T but can't decide on leather or bio-thane. Is one more popular than the other?

Thanks!:)

Hey, Gal! The Ride n'Tie is one of my favorite pieces of Imus tack.. good choice!  I've had both the biothane and leather, and for me, the leather wins out.  My horse is a scamp who rubs & scratches his face on everything, and the biothane ripped and looked bad quickly.  Biothane is the easier to care for (just dip it in soapy water), but my leather one is tougher.  I guess it depends on how hard you and your horse are on your equipment..  :)  Best wishes,

Leather looks SO nice.  For my purposes. . .(clinics, multi-horses, etc.) the beta is so easy.  Just put it in the dishwasher, and it's good to go.

But personally, not professionally?  I'd go with leather.  (We use a very high quality bridle leather. . .)

Yeah, I like leather too.. I just wish they made the  Ride 'n Tie in a size more suitable
to the smaller breeds. I'd buy one for my pony Sunny in a heart beat.

I agree with you SunnysMum.  I bought a ride and tie for my horse and it was way to big for her.  She wears a cob or arabian sized halter, cavessons, etc.  I ended up returning it.

I can speak to the leather used for the ride n tie...it is absolutely fabulous. I've never had another piece of tack that compares (maybe that's because I don't have a 4 beat yet....)

Thanks for all the great input and thanks Brenda! I will go with the leather, I kinda thought I'd like it better, I have some bio-thane that ripped and I too am kinda hard on my tack, because I use it so much, I do keep my stuff clean. I also looked carefully at the pic of the R N T and I love the fact that there are no metal hanging snaps or clips for securing the bit, that was a huge pet peeve of mine with my bio-thane halter bridle combo, it was like figuring out a puzzle to put it on the horse and the snaps would go this way and that way. Bio-thane is also not as light as I'd thought it would be either, goes to show that natures stuff is always the best!
Thanks y'all! ( now I'm wondering if I can get myself and Olli to one of Brendas clinics!) to1

Seriously, if they would only recognise the market for these Smaller Gaited Breeds, it'd be something to capitalize on.  Supply and Demand! The American Gaited Pony Registry is doing quite well, these little guys aren't just a Novelty any more.

I also love my RNT.  I have the leather one.   I had a different type of halter bridle before, and found it difficult to get the bit in the mouth.  Used to have to clip it on one side to keep the strap up and then force the bit in the mouth.  Now I just hold the bit in my hand, the horse willingly opens his mouth, and I slip it gently in.

The only comment I can make for possible improvement is that I'd rather have regular buckles rather then the conway buckles.  The conway are too difficult to adjust when the RNT is on the horse.  (Hint, hint Brenda, for a design change!)

I have both and prefer the leather.  Although I own two leather and one beta, I too would be in the market for a couple of cob sized bridles.  Foxy and Banner have petite heads.  Right now the three I have are for Rawhide, Melody and Luna, all big horses.  I have not tried it on Gracie yet, but it might be too big for her too.

I too agree that the Conway buckles to the bit are difficult to adjust while the horse is wearing the headstall.

maybe if enough of us get together and ask for them, they will make them... I know I would love to order a good lot of about 20-30 for the herd I have for my TV Series... And they're ALL Cob/Arab size.

I'll talk to Bobby about the cob sized option.  Meantime, the conways are VERY easy to adjust on the horse - just takes a wee bit 'o practice. . . (And they're not as bulky as snaps.)

Guess that doesn't mean we don't get a design change to buckles!!!   I find the conways very difficult to work with, especially while they are on the horse.  Oh well, guess I'll have to put up with it!

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one PB.  The Conway buckles are not as easy for me to adjust as regular buckles, especially when my hands are cold or I'm dealing with a fractious horse.  Adjusting them sometimes requires putting some slack into the headstall, at the expense of pulling on the horse's mouth.  I try to make sure before I put the headstall on that it is pre-adjusted as close as possible to the correct size, but I always feel no matter how quick or skilled I am adjusting, that it's a little rude to the horse.  Obviously it isn't such a big issue that it prevents me from collecting a few of these headstalls.  Your design is simple and less subject to failure and also less costly to produce than to have a headstall portion that exists in three pieces with two buckles on either side and two Conways for the bit attachment which is what I believe a couple of us are envisioning in our ideal design.  I have a custom made hunter green biothane headstall in my ideal design, and it is easier for me to adjust.  I have a little bit of peripheral neuropathy, and Conways are a pain regardless whether I'm adjusting them while on or off a horse.  But still I will take a Conway buckle any day over a Chicago screw.  I will not own a piece of tack that is held together by Chicago screws.  Chicago screws are a complete rule out LOL!

[4]-who is looking forward to seeing a COB sized headstall and halter coming soon!

Ditto on the chicago screws.  The few things that I have had with chicago screws, hubby has put never-seize on them so they won't come undone.

On the RNT with the conway buckles, I had to punch several more holes in the leather.  Each time I would do the adjustments while the RNT was off the horse, then try it back on.  I always have to punch more holes where there are buckles too, but it's a lot easier to see where I have to punch them, and then make adjustments after the equipment is back on the horse.  I know conways are more inexpensive to use, but I would gladly pay more to have the ease of buckles.

We originally used buckles on the R-n-T's, and customers inundated us with requests for conways, instead.

Sheesh!  ::)

I'm not fussed either way over buckles or chicago screws or what ever, not like it doesn't take more than about what five minutes or so to put chicago screws in and take the conway buckles out?

I just want tack and other stuff that actually FITS my pony, there are lots of us smaller adults that are riding large gaited ponies and small gaited horse breeds with the short flat backs and pretty refined delicate heads. And No Tack that actually fits properly.

I have the leather and love it - although I did have to punch several holes to get the right fit for my RMH.

I have the bio-thane on a bitless bridle and liked that too, but liked the looks of the leather and if I ever decided to show or needed a neater appearance the leather is def. the way to go.
