I just received one of the new ICB's that have the copper piece in the center that extends out over the joint in the middle.  I like the new design. Even if it separates slightly in the future, the joint will still be covered.  It also seems like it is just a slight bit wider than the old bit which is good for me since my horse has a 5 1/2 inch mouth and the older version was just barely wide enough.  I also thought that my horse responded better if that's possible.  I think it was because the independent side action was more clear since the joint was tighter.  I think it is definitely worth upgrading if you have an old one.

I got and used mine yesterday .  I looked very carefuly at the joint area and my 1st thought was  "  How on earth could this come apart ?? "  So I don't believe thats a issue .

I changed to a ICB because my horse is very gentle and does not need a big walking horse bit - I wanted some thing gentler on his mouth . Easy & comfortable on him .

My gelding took right to it and had a beautiful headset . He tends to rack with his head up - stargazeing I call it -  and as a wonderful plus the ICB  really made a difference .    The only thing I noticed was that he kept his mouth open - a lot - .  Do you think that I adjusted it too loose or tight  ?  I made sure the curb chain was ~ 3 fingers .   Or is he just getting used to a new feel ?

The ICB weighs heavier than most bits, so could just be that he's getting used to it.

If he's not trying to get his tongue over it, I think it is either too high or he just needs a looser rein. As long as he responds appropriately to your requests, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks  .  He isn't trying to get tongue over it.   I'll try it lower . Most likely had too much of a smile l1   as  he also did it on a loose rein .
