Is there an Imus 4-beat synthetic saddle - I keep searching and can't find one. If there is does anyone know what they cost?

Right now, there is not an Imus Lite in production. There was an awesome saddle designed and ready for production when Big Horn closed their doors. It was a shame because the saddle was going to be great. The rest of what I write is going to come from 'fuzzy memory'. I have fuzzy memory since my wreck in Sept. 09. Maybe Brenda will confirm when she gets back from the Midwest Horse thing. Brenda wanted to offer this saddle on the market so she took her prototype to another company for possible production but found that they were not going to be able to build according to the design and the compromises they needed to make to produce it were things Brenda did not want to compromise. After that, I think a new design was made. This one was going to be even lighter. I'll have to research the board to gather any info about that one. This is where the fuzzy memory kicks in. Anyway, there is no Imus lite just yet. But I hope one will come available on the market to anyone interested in having one. I want to attest to the quality Brenda wants built into a cordora saddle she designs. I can attest to that because I had the privilige to ride her original prototype all over Mt. Rogers, VA and it felt like I was riding my old Amish made 4 Beat. No difference. I really put it through some rough riding, too. I don't think Brenda will mind me sharing what I think of her original design prototype. I sure don't want to leave this world without sharing some good things I know. This is one of them. Its all good. In reality, it may be that the 'lite' I know will never come to production. So, I wouldn't hold out for one if I was only trying to save a buck over the leather model. You just might miss the best ride you ever had. Whatta

Thanks - I was sure I saw one on this website before. I was kind of leaning toward one of them. I have 2 saddles that I think I may have sold and I was thinking about putting the money toward one of these synthetic saddles - guess I'll have to wait and see what happens - or bite the bullet on a leather one - but they're a little out of my price range.

I think there was a two hundred dollars difference between the leather and the cordora price. It may or may not have been a major decision maker for anyone wanting a 4-Beat saddle but it was a shame for those needing a lite verson. Brend did put out a newsletter with all the details of 'what happened' to inform as many as she could. There was also something about it here on the board. Not too long after, she offered a sale price on the leather version. I think that sale was two hundred dollars off the regular price. I expect a sale price to be announced in the fall, if history can repeat itself in this economy, because there is usually a sale just before Christmas. No promises, tho. Anyway, if you find yourself loving the ride in a 4-Beat, I doubt you'll feel like you ever bit a bullet to have it. I paid full price for mine years ago and they have since been offered for less than when I purchased mine but I never feel like I missed out on savings. I was too busy riding the one I had.

Whatta, your memory isn't as fuzzy as you think - you got this all right. I've now made three serious attempts to get a Lite saddle on the market, all with disappointing results. Big Horn got my prototype built just before declaring bankruptcy. Another lite saddle producer couldn't/wouldn't make the saddle with all the features I insist upon in an Imus saddle. Then last year I went to still another Lite saddle producer, and we went round and round about what I expect to have in a Lite saddle. He produced a prototype that seemed fine - but the weight was 22 pounds, and the price nearly the same as the leather version. Still, I ordered a dozen saddles to start, and made the Big Announcement. Customers did not respond to the announcement as we had anticipated - but that's just as well, since the saddles that came in to NBS did NOT meet my specifications, and were of poor overall quality. Thank goodness my logo had not yet been stitched on, as Bobby was able to sell them at cost as generic synthetic saddles. Right now, I'm putting the whole thing to rest until/unless I get some sort of inspiration regarding how to make this work. It seems synthetic saddle manufacturers are simply unwilling to work with my materials, and to my quality specifications. PB

Brenda, National Bridle sells a synthetic saddle that seems to be good quality for the inexpensive price. Have you checked into the company who manufactures them for NB? They sell it under the Tennessean label. I have one and have used it for years and am very pleased with the quality of it. The Tennessean Saddle is well made, but doesn't have the custom tree, SupraCor padding, etc. that is part of my requirement for a saddle that carries my name. Bobby has checked with the manufacturer, and they will only work with a rigid, molded ralide tree - which is contrary to my saddle dynamics philosophy. If I were only out to sell as many saddles as possible, rather than to make sure my saddles give horses the greatest degree of comfort and freedom of motion possible, this would be a much easier endeavor! Don't get discouraged Brenda. After all if it's worth doing it's worth doing right and as the proud owner of two of your saddles if I were to purchase a "Lite" version I know that I would expect it to be as good as my leather ones! When the time is right it will all work out. After all as we all know the Lord works in mysterious ways! In the mean time keep up the good work! Melody

I hope there's some made by July 2011. Star will be going under saddle then and I definitely wanted one. A lite saddle will be perfect for her.

I also have been waiting for a truly LITE version of the 4 beat. say 15 lbs. Have "frayed" tendons in my upper arms and a 3 pound saving just did not cut it for me to be qualified as LITE. (LOL lighter maybe, but NOT lite!) Ya know, one with no leather, but that fantastic tree!

I think if it were possible to lighten the saddle to 15lbs, it would be done. I honestly don't think we are ever going to see it. Brenda put a lot of work in making the one she had and it only came down to around 20lb. However, removing the stirrups did make it lighter. Stirrups weigh a lot. Hey, how 'bout a saddle that comes in sections so it is light going on initially? Say, first put on the tree and rigging, then add the fenders and stirrups? Snap on an optional cantle extention for our saddle bags? Put on in sections, take off in sections? i1 i1 i1 Oh, Brenda! Let's call it the Gait lite saddle with ultralight technology.

Neither. I was kinda off-handed serious. I figure as long as the connection of the parts is very, very easy then it probably won't take any more than 5 extra minutes. tu1 Now, I expect someone will market this and claim it as their own idea. Drats. I shoulda kept my mouth shut. w2
