I borrowed a wide and a regular 4 beat saddles to try on my twh. The wide is an older amish built and the regular is a 2007 Circle Y model. On the regular saddle the front rigging ring is two inches farther back that on the wide saddle. This sets the saddle further forward on the horse. Was this designed in as a difference in the wide and regular trees? Or is it the result of a design change between the Amish saddle and the circle Y saddle?

It was an unauthorized design change made by Circle Y. Fortunately, it really doesn't affect the way the saddle works on the horse, since the tree design is what determines where the saddle is located. The difference you're noting may be due to the different way the saddles fit, which might determine sit. If you're placing the saddle on different horses, with varying conformations, toplines, and centers of gravity, that will also affect where the saddle rests in relation to the horse. Hope this helps!
