LOL Lakota, I swear this IMUS saddle on Rain is molded between us! I won't let ever Chris or his petite daughter sit in it! I mean, it feels perfect! Can't sell the QHs, one is my dream QH I started with, got back sound after he got shoulder kicked on a ride and developed sweeney shoulder... his full recovery was nothing short of amazing, and he and I did that together. He is the horse I can fully depend on. The other is my 3yr old I started after his reigning and cutter training, I do extreme trailing riding on now at 4.5yrs old, and he is an ace like I have never seen... will cross or travel across any terrian challenge without blinking, works cattle on a dime too. So just too darn good horses to let go of, and I really don't mind the QH ride, especially because there are lots of friends to team up here. But Rain, he is just awesome... his ride and vibe blows me way, I have a great feeling the whole time. And it is much fun to stay in the saddle with his parade of gaits. Just not willing to mess up his own saddle, lol. But I might try the wide for my stout muscled QH... that would give me an idea!

I use my standard tree on my TB and my wide tree on my PerchxTB. I don't really have a problem posting because I'll get my legs under me in proper equitation position as opposed to "chair seat" the Imus saddle encourages for gaiting. It fits all of my horses very well. The supracor padding is a godsend! And they're so comfy on the trail!

Noell, you are too funny! Leather and Supracor are not going to take a 'set' from riding on a different horse. This Supracor allows for a lot of fit forgiveness, but the build you describe will most likely require the wide tree for a proper fit. (Lucky you, you have an excuse to get a second 4beat!) As for the posting, the stirrup leathers are a little more forward possibly making that harder. I have not used my 4beats on trotters though so I can't say for sure. My suggestion is to go gaited all the way. (I know, I know, they are family and you could never sell, right?)

This could be part of my success. LOL, thanks for all the great product ideas for getting brand new and used tack ready and friendly for the horse. And that probably is a key to success! My new saddle squeaked so loudly, my companion riders were making remarks. It was like a dog's loudest squeaky toy. But I decided after that first ride I was keeping the saddle and I oiled and dusted it up good. Now it is so quiet and nicely broke in with the regular oils and conditioning. Which brings me to another idea... I really love my IMUS saddle on my TWH. How would the IMUS saddle fit my very stout, and I mean big butt, bull-built-little wither, flat back QH, and also my growing QH who sports a short back, big rump, but has a dinosaur wither? My current IMUS fits Rain, my TWH, perfect and I don't want to unshape it for him if I use it on my other horses. So thinking of getting another IMUS eventually for these QH horses. Also, if anyone rides their IMUS saddles in a non-gaited horse, how does the post feel when trotting? I find in a flex tree, the post can get untimed, but in an old wade tree, the post stays tightly timed. Of course, in my IMUS on Rain, I am always gaiting smooth, and I am funny about unshaping my saddle once it customs itself to my horse and me, so not willing to test my IMUS on my QHs!

Hey all, I solved the saddle problem. It wasn't the saddle, It's the horse. I put my new one on her and she acted up, then I switched back to her old one. She bucked this time. So back to ground work we went. My trainer will be so disappointed with me. He told me to work her or ride her at least every other day. I have failed to do this. She is testing me right now. I do want to ask about one thing with my saddle. With me in the seat I can't put my hand under it by the shoulder. Is this bad or good?

This intrigues me, I have never had a horse respond like this to any 4beat saddle, including 2 yr. olds and older broke horses. I do always oil and condition my saddles first. This could be part of my success. I like to use Leather Therapy oil everywhere I can get it in, both sides of the leather. Let it set overnight. Next day I like to use Leather New liquid glycerine saddle soap everywhere I can get it in. Leather New deep conditioning oil really limbers up the tie straps, then the Leather New liquid glycerine saddle soap. Polish it up with a soft cloth and you've got one nice high quality saddle on your hands!w2 Something else, I always put my saddle strings on the 1 1/4" rings on the pommel and cantle to keep them from jingling.(They don't come with them on the cantle so I add them.) This could bother some horses if they've never experienced that sound.

Thanks Noellee I did read all your posts. I read everyone of the 4 Beat Saddle posts. I think this is the problem. She never actually bucked just acted like she wanted to. She didn't want to move forward and tossed her head alot. Like she was confused. She is only 3 and has had only 30 days training. So far she's been a good girl.

And another one, settling him down... he has a good handle, so we are trying to keep it, lol. I did have to dust the saddle up with talc powder to get rid of the squeaks and squashing for that second ride tu1. Sherry, I have an old posted thread where I first put the IMUS saddle on Rain... I rode him that day and it was one hyper ride, lol. Normally he is great under saddle... but the whole feel and squeak of the IMUS saddle had him dancing left and right, forward and backwards, a hopping... just one big excited ride!! When I posted our first experience everyone told me I should have worked him on the ground first in the saddle... I just went straight to the riding part. I did skip the groundwork part on the second ride, only because he did not go to the extremes of trying to throw me, Rain was just a nervous wreck. So on the next ride I got myself a little mellow first, then rode out his nervousness on a long, long trail ride... he was mellow by the end... then it went smooth on our next ride, now he moves in his IMUS saddle like it is his own skin. You know your horse... groundwork could be best first for you two. Put some weight on the saddle like a feed bag and tied it down. I never felt like Rain was going to throw me, he was just a great big handful that first ride. Here are pictures, lol, of me trying to get him to steady it out that first ride. You can see his ears and body language, going "what the heck!!" Attachment: after first ride, getting him quiet.jpg (Downloaded 163 times) Last edited on Sun Oct 23rd, 2011 01:12 pm by NOELLEE |

I have to guess that it is because she feels the rear of the saddle secured to her back. I would not try to mount her until she is desensitized to it and even to the long tie strings and the squish and new saddle noises. Let her get used to it with some hand walking and some line work. You should know when she is settled enough to mount her. You've got plenty of time so don't feel like you have to rush things with her.

Hey there ladies and gentlemen. I got my saddle today. YEAH!! But I have a little problem. My mare wants to buck. Totally acting really goofy. I hope it's cause she isn't used to it. She acts as if she's had no training at all. Can anyone help? Thanks Sherry
