I ask my Mom to take a look, she agreed with me that the one bar/skirt is thicker and placed higher than the other. Definately crooked, And she drove me and poor Sunny crazy when I was trying to find a saddle that actually fit Sunny. She's very detail oriented and knows a lot about saddle fitting. This one lady at a saddle shop that had brought lots of saddles to the Equine Affaire, swore we would never find a saddle to fit "That Pony" the way we wanted it to and knew it had to. We did, for now. Until I can get my own IMUS. Last edited on Thu Jun 10th, 2010 02:59 pm by SunnysMum ____________________ Chi ha tegoli di vetro, non tiri sassi al vicino |

I know with all my being that Jaeda just wants to share this wonderful time in her life. It is not everyday that we have the means to purchase something so expensive for ourselves. Many of us have spent more on our saddles than on our horses. But making what seems like negative posts on the world wide web about her saddle has the potential to cost GOG many sales. It just doesn't feel entirely right to me to walk this line on the GOG board because I know that pics can be deceiving. Have you ever seen it printed on a resturant menu "If you are not satisfied, tell us. If you are, tell a friend"? I think Jaeda should talk to Brenda about anything she is not satisfied with and give Brenda a chance to make her a completely satisfied customer. And when it comes to sharing her happiness with friends, we are loving it! Look at her big smile and her beautiful horse! The saddle is in your hands to touch Jaeda, If it's off and you are not satisfied, please let someone from GOG know it by calling them directly. I'm sure they want you to be satisfied. tu1

Thanks whatta. It's true one reason for this MB is to help customers unaccustomed to my innovative tack to make proper adjustments until they "get" it - and it works very well that way. But people just browsing the site may not get all the follow-up information where the majority of customers come away very, very satisfied with their purchase, so all they see is the seemingly negative and get the wrong impression about what's going on. The saddle is not crooked, and the leather is certainly not different thicknesses. I put the photo of the saddle in PhotoShop and did some measuring and "squaring up" of the photo, and discovered it is sitting on the rack slightly tilted. Having said that, the ruler isn't laying on the bars (which is where crookedness would originate if it existed), but across the front edge of the leather skirting. This leather may develop a slight upward curl on one or both sides, especially since the saddle is a used one and may have been ridden by an asymetrical horse and/or rider. It's apparent to me that the left side of the front skirting has indeed got more curl than the right side. I'm betting your horse is asymetrical, which accounts for the different degree of sweating one side to the other. If she is, then you've compensated for this by adjusting your seat slightly to one side or the other - this is very, very common. You wouldn't have felt it with your other saddle because of the more rearward placement and the rigid tree bars between you and your horse. Your new saddle gives you a closer feel for the horse, so you're more aware of what's going on, and having to deal with it more consciously. Are you using the 4-Beat pad? The tacky-tack should help hold things more in place on a slightly crooked horse. Also, whatta's suggestion for a shorter girth is worth exploring. You need the H-A-H, but place it farther back, into the "dip" behind the withers. Finally - and this is important - just go out and ride the saddle a few times w/o being too analytical about it. Right now you're super conscious of every little thing (naturally enough), but if you just relax and enjoy your ride, I think you'll just "slip" into being another satisfied 4-Beat owner before you know it! PB PS: Pretty palomino! You have a horse that matches you!

Just wanted to give everyone an update. Sorry I was absent for awhile, I just needed to take a step back. Last Thursday, I had a professional saddle fitter come out and look at my saddle. She was of the opinion that whatever was going on in the front of the saddle was purely cosmetic, which she said was relatively common with handmade saddles. She had me sit on my saddle on one of those horse shaped saddle stands, and said that she thought the saddle was not "off" at all. She looked at it from about 100 different angles, and was satisfied that there were no fundamental problems with it. I did not mention Brenda's suggestion that Jaeda, in fact, might be crooked, but that is exactly what she determined. She thinks my old, cheap-o, brand x synthetic saddle was digging in Jaeda's off side, causing those muscles to be less developed than her near side. Thus, Friday night I sewed on the velcro for my HAH pad to my 4-beat pad and took out two pieces of padding from the near side. On Saturday, I went on a 1.5 hour trail ride with Jeannine, and presto! No leaning, and a beautiful sweat pattern. I have ridden since then and had no problems. I am happy. I have only one question at this point...Whatta, you mentioned that I might need a longer girth, while PB, you mentioned that you agree with Whatta that I might need a shorter girth..I am confused! ;) Let me know which one you both meant! I will post a pic of Jeannine, Trinity, Myself, and Jaeda soon...my with my 4-beat and Jeannine with her very cool antique saddle (that belonged to her great-grandma) PS- Say a little prayer for our dog Molly-she had a bout with fleas, was allergic to them, is too old to get a shot for it, and has scratched herself so much that I spend 20 minutes a day cleaning up blood off our carpet. to1

Katie, I am so happy to read that issues have been resolved with your new beautiful saddle and maybe even more that you and your childhood friend are now back riding together...how wonderful is that????? I never viewed your thread as negative, just asking questions which we all do when we get something new (to us) - and I thought that was part of the reason for this wonderful MB! Brenda Imus' products are so wonderful and innovative that they stand alone in the industry!!!! There will always be people who want to be critical, negative or competitors who will put others products down. "You can't please all the people all the time" type thing. Brenda - I appreciate all the hard work, innovative research and dedication that you have put into the gaited horse industry over all these years and think your products are shining examples of your expertise. Let those who would criticize be, and stand tall knowing you are at the TOP!

And Katie, I do hope your dog is going to get past this flea episode really soon! I've heard they are really rough this year.

I am so glad you worked things out - I know how much you anticipated getting your saddle, and what a disappointment it must have been that everything didn't go smoothly at first. I suspected the problems your saddle fitter discovered, but it's impossible to "diagnose" anything definitely from a distance. I think when you first spoke with Jake he advised you to do just what you did with your H-A-H, didn't he? I also did not think your posts were negative. You are a very positive person! It's just that competitors and those who suffer from professional envy can and do capitalize on situations like this. (I'm always surprised by how nasty these people can be, since I consider we're all on the same side - the horse's!) This is why it's better to come to Jake and me privately and let us help you work out problems you may be having with products. . .how many "lurkers" won't ever come back to this thread to see how it's been resolved, or if they do, won't share that good news with anyone they've already "bad mouthed" me and/or the product to? (Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean people aren't out to get me!) Sorry about the girth confusion - I meant longer, but wrote shorter. Another form of CRS l1. PB

Thanks for this update! l1 I've spent hours this weekend thinking about you. I can't even express how happy I am that YOU are finally satisfied with your saddle purchase. I know that getting my own 4-Beat is one of my happiest memories. I really want everyone's experience to be that good. Maybe that sounds silly but . . . sobeit. I'm glad that you were able to put your own resources to work in finding a saddle fitter to come out and help you understand Jaeda's saddle fitting needs. Here, we can only spit out guesses even if we know tons about saddle fitting. And speaking of spitting out guesses, I'd say that Brenda agrees that a longer girth might be better than the one you have. I think she is so used to instructing everyone to have a shorter girth because the dropped rigging of a 4-Beat usually requires a shorter girth than the rigging of a standard western saddle. Generally, I tend to be most comfortable with a girth that when tight leaves me with six inches of space between the girth D-ring and the saddle D-ring. Thanks for continued sharing in this thread and bringing us an education about what to do if we have doubts regarding our saddle fit. I tip my hat. -- Edited: Forgive me for not mentioning Molly initially. Prayers sent her way. I have an old dog that is very sensitive to flea bites as well. My favorite flea spray for monthly control is Mycodex.
