Here is the video I promised! I can't wait until I get off work!!! I will post the whole story so far tonight when I have more time.

Also, the only wonky thing I noticed was that the points where the skirt attaches on the underside of the pommel is slightly off or crooked, you can kind of see this in the video, but I'll get a better picture later. PB/Jake/Whatta, is this normal?

CONGRATS!  You should have sat on it.  I did it and I've had others do it - especially when the weather's bad outside.  It looks fantastic - watch the skirts folding under - mine still do even after 2 years of use.  I didn't see what you meant about the skirt attachments but I don't think it'll be a problem.  Oh yeah- the Supracor in the stirrups - way, way comfy especially on a long trail ride that's very winding or lots of downhill.  Worth every penny.

Can't wait to hear about your first ride.

I can't wait to hear more, too. I haven't seen the new CCI saddles so I think you should take pics of the saddle and send them to Jake and ask him about any concerns you have. I'm sure it will all be just fine. I didn't notice anything weird on the vid. You lucky Girl! Get that horse saddled and give us more! :D

Congratulations!!! r1

Congratulations Katie.  I have the exact same saddle in my collection, black 16" western standard.  It was my first one and is 5 years old and still looks very sharp!  But you are now ahead of me because I don't yet have one of the nice new pads.  I was hoping one would be left over from the Midwest Horse Fair, but the reality is we probably could have sold 3 times as many as we brought!

Jaeda, seeing the pure excitement and joy on your face actually brought tears of joy to my eyes!  I know how long you have waited and you so deserve this new saddle.

I'm with everyone else . . .SIT IN THAT SADDLE!!!  You will not break the stand.  When my hubby's 4 beat came in I set it on a saddle stand and had him sit in it.  The stand held his 205 lb. weight with no problem.

Congratualtions!  Now . . .more pic's l1

I just relived the excitement of when my saddle arrived :).  Congrats.  Oh, my aluminum stand has never broken with me sitting on it, give it a go.

Okay guys, this is going to be one heck of a marathon post, so I will do it in chunks in case the internet or my computer gets crabby. First of all, I loooooved my first ride in the 4-beat, but more on that in just a bit.

So, FedEx attempted to deliver my saddle on Saturday, but I was at the bank. I called them to ask if I could go pick it up, and they told me "sorry for the inconvenience", but no. And, they aren't open on Sunday or Monday. What?! So, I asked what time they would deliver on Tuesday. They said in the morning. So, I resigned myself to wait until Tuesday. My husband waits at home patiently on Tuesday, his day off, until 1 pm and the saddle has not arrived. So, he took the door tag that I signed just in case and stuck it on the door. This is the sticker that they leave behind when they miss you. If you sign it and stick it on your door, they are supposed to leave the package even if you aren't home. So, fully expecting to have a 4-beat on my porch when I get home, I am dumbfounded when I find my porch empty Tuesday night. With the signed door tag still stuck to my door. And a new door tag saying they missed me right next to it. I called FedEx, and they again apologized for the "inconvenience" and had no idea why the driver had not left the package. So, I told them to just hold it and I would pick it up on Wednesday, which is what I did. Whew! It was so agonizing those 4 days - my saddle was in a warehouse 5 minutes from my house and those janky bastards were holding it hostage!!! --

Okay, so now I have to talk a little bit about what amazing flipping timing this has all been. :):)

My friend Jeannine, who I have known since I was in seventh grade, moved to Texas after college. Since we went to separate colleges, this move just solidified the long distance friendship thing, which was a big bummer for us.

Rewind. When we were sixteen, we leased two mares from a woman who supplied horses to our local girl scout camp. She didn't charge us anything, because it was the off season and she had no one to rent the horses to for money (she just rents out horses to summer camps). So, all we had to do was pay for board. It was one of the happiest times of my teenage years...I had 2 horses at my disposal 24-7! Anyhow, when the lease was up, Jeannine bought one of these horses, a quarter horse named Trinity (Miss Granite's Charge). I was so jealous at that time. My parents were not keen on buying a horse. When Jeanine went away to college in Iowa, that was the last time I saw Trinity. Well, they are both BACK! Jeannine's husband got transferred to Ft. Leonardwood, so she will be in STL for at least a year! She and my saddle darn near showed up on the same day. AND it is SO good to see Trinity again.

So, long story short, this is a FABULOUS time to get a new, awesome saddle as I will be hitting the trails with my old friends very soon...we are already planing on riding Saturday.

Here are some old pictures of Trinity and I back in the day:

Sorry the photo quality is terrible, they are old photos and I had to scan them in.

Enough about the other stuff, let's talk about the SADDLE! ;)

Before I get into the technical, more tedious stuff here is some eye candy:

Sorry the first video is so shaky, we forgot the tripod and my husband has moderate tremors that make it difficult to hold the camera steady.

Some snazzy pictures:

Okay, now for the technical stuffs. First, I was absolutely shocked at the dramatic and immediate improvement in Jaeda's gait. I used to have to fight her to keep her collected and maintain her gait. Literally, with a loose rein, I'm really not exaggerating here, the first time I asked for gait in the 4-beat, she COLLECTED HERSELF. The difference was profound throughout the ride. I could hardly believe it.

Now, I want to tackle the HAH pad. I'm not sure I need it or not. First, to establish a baseline, here is a picture of Jaeda standing as square as I could get her with nothing on:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/9089470@N03/4687207884/

Next, here is a picture of her with just the 4-beat pad and the HAH pad:

A picture with saddle and HAH pad:

A picture with saddle and no HAH pad:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/9089470@N03/4687206306/

It seems to me that the pommel is too high up when using the HAH pad, but I'm not sure. All the riding I did tonight I wasn't using it because I don't want to sew or glue the velcro on if I might not need it. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Next, the potential skirt crookedness.

Here are some photos:

I don't know how well you can tell from these photos, but you can definitely tell in person. I don't really mind, as long as PB or Jake assures me that it will not hurt Jaeda. If they don't catch the thread, I'll send Jake pics tomorrow.

The only problem I had while riding was that I felt like I was leaning to the right just a scoche. I think this might have been because there was more space between the D-ring and the cinch on the off side than there was on the near side. When I fixed this, it seemed to get better, but not go away entirely.

Here are some pictures of my rigging for you to scrutinize - also, do you think my cinch is too long??

Finally, I want to show you sweat patterns:

Near side:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9089470@N03/4686569863/

Off side:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9089470@N03/4687216634/

Notice how the off side is much sweatier? I thought this might lend credibility to the feeling that the saddle was off kilter to the right. However, in my old saddle, I also had more sweat on the off side and I didn't feel crooked then. Whatcha think?

Ok, enough for now. Can't wait to see what you guys think.

Souzko and Liteshod - Thanks so much for sharing in my exuberance - this is a pretty big deal to us Imus junkies isn't it? :)

Gee, you expect us to answer ALL those questions at once?  Your horse is so pretty in her new outfit.  I love how she moves.   I had the same trouble with FedX as you.  I didn't know they delivered on Saturday and I missed him, but I got mine on Monday I thought.  I think NBS required a signature.  Anyways, I don't know anything about the HAH pad so can't help you there.  Your girth looks okay to me, about how mine looks.  I had to go down a size with this saddle thou.  Could the sweat pattern, heavy on one side just be your horse is made that way?  I never noticed my horse doing that, will check it out.  But his sweat pattern is dry all the way down his spine and there are a couple dry spots but they are equal on both sides in the same pattern.   I really can't see where the saddle is crooked but I know we can't see in pictures what you see.  I diesected my saddle too when I first got it.  There is one place on my saddle I wasn't happy about,  but we have to realize these are hand made and not by some machine so we are going to see a little  differences here and there I think.    I am happy your riding buddy has come home.  You will have so much fun catching up and riding just like when you were kids!  Enjoy your new tack and keep us updated.  I am sure in the morning you will get much more response!

I can totally see where the WHOLE saddle is off, the (saddle) Left side is thicker than the right, and they're off set. I suggest sending photos to Jake and also Bobby at NBS. I remember this one lady getting some different saddle like that, and it ended up wearing sores on opposite shoulder and back point because of the saddle being off set.  Maybe it's because of my foriensic training or artistic eye, *shrugs* but I can definately see it.

somewhere in your pictures I saw one of your horse with 'marks' all over the withers....  was that to help figure out where the HAH pad went?

I can tell you that pad is made to fill in the low spot behind a high withered horse (mine needs one).  It should not be up on the withers.....  but fits in the depression created behind them (like mark 8, 9 or 10) - so the saddle rests on it and doesn't bridge.  I'm pretty sure in that one pic with the saddle pad and HAH - you have that one too far forward.

Gee, I have to agree with you that the right side looks like it was attached way higher than the left...can't be right.

I also noticed your left stirrup looked longer in the pic of you astride facing the camera...and bet that could be coming from the above problem...but I am not knowledgeable in this at all.

I know you would hate to send it back...but definitely want it to be right when we spend this kind of money (not to mention what it might do to the horse)!

All I think I see that looks different from one side of the pommel to the other is the ring on the left looks higher than the one on the right. Otherwise, on the stand, the bars look even or the same.

I think you are going to have to ride more and use your trial period to make sure Jaeda is comfortable. This is what matter most. I also think you will notice things like sweat patterns and saddle roll will get better in a few days as things soften a bit and you make the adjustments you need.

Too, I wonder if you are sitting your normal seat or if you are bracing some because your picture is being taken? Sometimes (for me) we tend to pose a little. Make sure you are relaxed.

About your girth, it is not too long. It looks some too short IMO because I really like the inch rule I've written about when it come to the length of the girth.

You look very happy. Please continue to enjoy the next two weeks of the trial period. I'm so happy and jealous that you live in what I think is heaven on earth (Missouri). Tell your friend that I also lived at the Fort when I was a kid. Tell her I lived at either 72 or 77 Epps Street. I have to wonder if she knows where that is. :D
