I'm almost ready to buy an Imus saddle but I have a low withered (mutton withered) broad backed TWH mare. So far the only saddle I've found that fits her has a haflinger tree (Haflingers are low withered, broad backed). Would the wide tree fit such a horse? Is there an extra-wide tree? Could I borrow an Imus tree, not the saddle just the tree, to see if it would fit her? I went through quite a few saddles to find my current one. It fits her but has almost no padding for me and is quite heavy.

Send Pics in to the "Fit My Horse" option on the IMUS website, and they will be able to tell you that way if the Wide Tree will fit or not. Plus the good thing is you have a "Two Week" No Questions Asked Trial Period also.

I just sent pics to "Help Fit My Horse". Today was the first day in the last several weeks that it hasn't been raining most of the day. We'll see what he says.

Sorry, I don't have pix of her in it. Keep forgetting to take the camera back to the barn w/me.

Thanks! That helps alot knowing that it fits your haflinger. I just don't want to start the round of buying saddles that don't fit again. By the way, I've always been curious. Are Haflingers gaited? Last edited on Sat May 8th, 2010 05:02 am by ladysrider |

No They're not Gaited, They're Small Mountain Draft Horses from Central Europe..

That's what I thought. I'd been to the Haflinger breed website and read about them but couldn't tell if they were gaited or not. I'm still waiting for Jake to get back to me on saddle fitting. When I start to do something, I tend to get impatient if things don't happen right away.

I can totally relate! Little Tid-Bit though, there is always the possibility one could turn up with "Gaiting" ability, as there are known Friesians, and several other traditionally non-gaited breeds that have individual horses that gait with in their breed. Also just about any horse can be taught a form of Fox-Trot or Rack (usually called a Bastard's Rack) with enough persistance and a trainer that really knows what they are doing. I know one trainer personally that took a Arabian with out a lick of a gait in her, and with in about two months had her Racking like a 5-Gaited Saddlebred.

By the way, I've always been curious. Are Haflingers gaited? No, but have to say I was quite surprised at the smoothness of Camryn's trot.

I urge you to stay patient, ladysrider, I know it's hard.. a friend here with a young TWH of a similar build as yours just got his 4Beat saddle (on my enthusiastic recommendation) and the wide tree is a perfect fit. He's thrilled with it's comfort for both him and his horse! His gelding gaited well but never seemed happy until now.. rushing all the time (likely from discomfort). Since the 4Beat came, he's smooth as silk and slowed down beautifully. It's a big investment and leap of faith, true, but oh so worth the trouble! There's nothing in the world like the feeling when you get tack issues solved forever, and the 4Beat has done just that for so many.. Oh, and I've loaned this friend my Imus Training Bit and it's a hit, too! Hang in there, your Lady is a beautiful girl... enjoyed the pics!

I'm about 99% sold. It really helped that souzko has a haflinger that the Imus fits. I already use the Imus transition bit on my hubby's paint gelding and the ICB on Lady. If I get the saddle, I'll also be buying the breast collar to go with it. I just need that one little extra bit of advice on which tree (I'm pretty sure it will be the wide tree). Lady is a pacey horse and I don't expect the saddle to fix that but I want to make sure at least part of the problem isn't the saddle. Last edited on Wed May 12th, 2010 03:18 am by ladysrider |

Don't hesitate to put in a phone call to Jake to confirm your fit photos. He does not always moniter this board and he may not realize that you are still waiting on a response. Whatta

Got your email and responded, your horse is a great looking horse. The wide tree Imus 4 Beat saddle will be the perfect saddle for your horse. We have been having a super large amount of trouble with emails from the gaits of gold website. Brenda has had her webmaster working on it and we think it is fixed.

Thanks a lot, Whatta and Jake! I thought it would be a wide tree but have bought wide trees in the past that didn't fit. Expect an order through National Bridle from me in the next several weeks.

I did it! I ordered the Imus western saddle (no floral tooling though). Also the pad, the breast collar and a couple other things. I was flinching as I was ordering it. It's the most I've ever spent for a saddle. I can't wait for it to get here. I hope, I hope, I hope it fits. Please let it fit!!

I betting it will fit but if not, don't sweat the spending because you can return it. Sure you might spend out on some shipping but you'll never be stuck. These saddle values hold up well in the secondary market, too. If you keep it, keep your paper work just in case you ever are faced with sellling it. I notice that they bring more at auction if the seller is sure of the details. If you need help during the trial period, just holla, we'll be here for you. Congratulations on what will turn out to be a very good investment for you and your horse!!!

Don't flinch too much - it'll be the best money you ever spent and you'll probably be able to sell all of your other stuff and just live with one saddle. It's very freeing to know you have that old reliable always there. You're gonna love it.

I'm now up to 3 Imus saddles! One wide endurance for my broad, mutton withered Rocky, a standard Western for my other Rocky, and a standard endurance for my Thoroughbred! They are amazing saddles! The wide endurance also works ok for my Perch/TB cross - but the front part of the tree comes up a little to far over his withers to work for him in the long run. I'm not looking forward to fitting him into another saddle!

Does the endurance fit differently than the western? They are on the same tree so I would think the fit would be about the same.
