Hopefully a few more smacks like this will wake them up.

Did anyone read some of the comments below this article?  It is the mindset of this individual that is most upsetting.  What more can be done to get through to him/her that pads and soring are crippling and killing this breed? t2:(

What's sad is, the decision to exclude them has also excluded good, honest trainers and show people. In turn, perhaps the honest ones will put even more pressure on the remaining die hards that are still using illegal methods. More of the equestrian world needs to wakeup to the fact that the industry will no longer tolerate the abuse of any breed for the sake of the all mighty ribbon and dollar.

I must admit that when I first joined this board, I did not clearly understand all the conterversy with the TWH. I knew their was abuse of course as with any breed. But after asking questions and reading many articles, I have come to the understanding and conclusion that it would be best if all breeds not just the TWH were to go back to as nature intended.

I feel the TWH has been targeted over other breeds because of the total change and well as abuse that the pads have created with these horses. The pads do not just inhance their gaits but can totally change it. Many of these horses pace once the pads are taken off, some turn out to be great racking horses and others do have the natural walking gait. Why do we need to inhance this. They either have it or they don't. We should not be promoting any breed they does not have the natural gait we want, whether it be racking or walking, ect.

Any horse that wear pads stay in stalls 24/7 only to be let out to go around the ring a few times before they are worn out from carrying the heavy wieght. I know that there are good people that take great care with their horses, but why can't we just let them be horses with out all the enhancement. I think we would all get greater joy from our horses in the long run.

Of course there is a lot more to it. But that is the basics of it for me. And so I am now a converter to the natural horse in every way.

PS: I have shown the padded horses and loved them, but I have also seen the results of abuse from pads and chains in person. I have never visited a TWH padded barn where I did not see this.

That's one of the things that I am planning on doing with my TV series "Emerald Hollow", is to promote the most Natural and Holistic and Gentle methods with horses. And with the liberty and relationship training at the forefront. To hopefully encurage kids to be more thoughtfull, kind and respectfull towards horses, as they are the future generations.
