Yes - like we are a Nation gone absolutely mad with self-indulgent, holier-than-thou citizens with egocentrical life styles & mind sets. How many folks even talk to their own neighbors, or even really know their names? We have become a Me-First Nation, and a very ugly one, to me.

I guess this post is a bit off topic - until I read the title, that is. Then, it is right on topic. (And, NO - I do not agree with or condone "soring" or what I may deem as mistreatment of horses, animals or other human beings.)

I have rarely seen anything resolved using anger & intimidation, or spitting buckets of venomous piss & vinegar. Lead by example  & persuade change with patient compassion & peaceful education.

There are as many opinions as there are minds/mouths that speak them - and usually no one cares about yours anything like you do & visa versa... I may think that I know best, but there is more than one way to skin a cat.

So, I would like to remind members of this message board that we are like a family here. Often our opinions, values & perspectives will indeed clash, but it is of utmost importance to remain mature & respectfully civil to one another in the public forum. Otherwise, please take it into private messaging or emails. This is one area that makes the GOG MB so unique...

The problem here, Whatta G'mon, is defining reasonable in such a way as to resonate with enough activist inclined people to make the difference...just as you suggest.  These people also need to be active members of the TWHBEA. Unfortunately, most of the people with whom I could agree as to a reasonable approach to this particular issue, refuse to be associated, in any way, shape or form, with the TWHBEA, because of this very problem and the inherent politics involved.

Having worked diligently in the state of Georgia for the candidates who would take a somewhat stronger stand regarding the issue of soring, I can say that many members I personally contacted are disgusted by the practice, but had no idea which candidate to vote for.....the smoke and mirrors utilized to obscure real agendas was staggering.  Even folks on the TWHBEA forums were confused....and would not budge from their support for candidates supported on the FreeTheBreeders website, even though their own posts indicated a desire to see an end to all manner of soring.

Many who hate the thought of chemical soring see nothing wrong with stacks/pads and chains. Most are unaware of the trickery performed by unscrupulous *farriers*. Few believe that ANYONE would intentionally "road founder" a horse just before a competition.  Yet, all these things are done, and I would consider them all to be "soring" and unacceptable. I don't know that I could compromise on any of these points to beome "reasonable".

I am ashamed that more activist members could not be rallied for this election. I talked about it on every forum I am on, as did many others.  We were, quite simply, out-gunned.  I have read Nellibly's posts dilligently, as she exhorts us all not to surrender our membership to the TWHBEA (and to join if not already a member)and am having sincere reservations about allowing my membership to lapse.

I know that change is coming.......but I admit to being one of those who wants it to happen RIGHT NOW!!!!!! Every day there are hundreds of beautiful horses tortured for the sake of men's (and women's) greed. Tomorrow simply isn't soon enough for it to stop. If I were queen, there'd be alot of folks tarred and feathered and run outta town.

What are we to do, then????? All we can.  Live and treat our horses as an example to others.  Talk about the lack of ability of these trainers to actually train horses, to everyone who will listen.  Search out and buy our horses from folks who believe as we do. Be a walking, talking advertisement for the wonderful inherent gaits of our beloved horses.

And lastly, maintain hope for tomorrow (for as Scarlett said, "there's always tomorrow...") and vow to work toward a different outcome in the next election.

As I see it, the fear of change is worse for our BL brethren......for if the general consensus was that the natural gaits of the horse are more becoming than the artificial gaits they know how to obtain, then where on earth would that leave them???  The unknown is always more frightening than what is known.
