It stands for Horse Industry Organization- but when it comes to showing TWH from what I understand (because I dont even own a TWH so I am learning this as I go) The TWH assoc doesnt sanction shows like AQHA and other breeds instead organizations sanction TWH shows. HIO's include SHOW, PRIDE, WHOA and there are a few others. Some people show under only one- rules can be different one HIO to another (creating more confusion) and some are more sound than others. Hope that helps

I am sure HIO are the ones that are at the shows that check the soring, ect. I assume it stands for Horse Investigators ? or something on that order. I not really up with it all either.

I don't know either, Lakota, what that is. We have a BL training barn near us where we board, Rae Martin Stables. He's been disqualified and fined and sanctioned etc. over the years, but just keeps on. Its a strange phenomenon, though, that happens to me when I see them. I drive by his place sometimes and see them working the horses under saddle, and right away get a hair raising reaction of some kind of awe in seeing the action and power of the horse, then immediately afterward I get a sickening feeling in my gut and a terribly sorry feeling for the poor animal whom God didn't make to gait that way! I then am almost in tears and want to whip the **** trainer who made them do that. Any of you know what I am referring to? I usually pray they aren't out when I drive by.

LaVonne- I totally agree that the court system is overwhelmed and this seems small compared to what they usually see. Which is why the associations and HIO's should enact their own rules to correct this behavior. Other associations have rules that if broken the person is banned. It seems that the TWH assoc and HIO's only seek to give token punishments not real negative consequences for behaviors harmful to the horse. But heck - they still think gingering is just fine and dandy too. So I guess we cant expect too much.

Did not mention any fines at all. Just a slap on the hand is all he recieved. Unfortunately until the laws are rewritten this is sometimes all a Judge can do. And sadly many Judges and attorneys alike do not realize the significance of such a crime. When they deal with murders, child abuse, ect. This sometimes seems somewhat insignificant to them. As you have to rememer they many times have hundreds of cases on the docket and are interested in only getting through them the best way possible and with out costing the county and tax payers money. Sad but true.

The pro BL people are making all sorts of excuses for him. His girlfriend has friesians. So wondering if he will move on to abusing another breed. The way the TWH show world is set up- it allows those convicted of abuse to just move to another HIO and continue to sore.

How horrible. I can't believe someone can do that, and only get probation. Too bad they can't take all the horses away from him.

http://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=19271&src=RC article on a trainer that has been prosecuted for bi-lateral sore and using a nerve cord (in this case a zip tie around the gumline) 2 years of probation is not enough IMO- he admitted his crime and some HIO's are not even addressing this- he can continue to show (sore)
