What do y'all consider a small group? Less than a dozen or more like a half dozen? When I've ridden with a bunch of people, we usually spread out into several smaller groups. Will EF provide a guide or are the trails marked pretty good? If no guide is necessary, perhaps we can plan to ride with who ever, when ever?

After camping this weekend, husband still does not know if he is going with me. He just can not handle people close by. I am keeping determined that I am coming and maybe have to bring my daughter or she will bring me! Her truck is more road Worthy than mine. So it will be okay to leave the LQ ( and husband?) behind and sleep in a tent! Isn't that camping anyways? All we need is the shower house and the meals cooked for us. Just maybe after riding two or three times together in a smaller group of 12 or more our horses may get used to it better? We are riding at a St.Judes group this weekend (daughter & I ) with at least 200 horses. Casey gets in high gear and gaits and prances up a storm, I just try to hang on and he keeps going till he is up front leaving my riding partner behind. I feel guilty to be in his mouth all the time, but I can not help it. Last year when I rode with my girlfriends, there was only 5 or 6 of us and he acted the same way as with the 200. I was wondering how much of this camp over will be organized also. Will there be a meet and greet so we can see everyone? TN, if I have to tent camp I may have to move to a smaller space instead of beside you, because our space now is for a big LQ. I know we have a year to plan, but a year moves along pretty fast when you put things off!

A small group to me is 10 or 12 of compatible riders. Fewer is even better. SaddlePal, maybe you can get your DH used to being around people in a year! Can you pull your LQ if your cousin comes with you? The road to EF is paved all the way so no narrow gravel roads, and there is always someone willing to back the trailer in for you. Do a lot of practicing and I'm sure you'll be ok. As far as meals go, we have never decided whether we want to have catered meals. I'd prefer it myself because it's less stuff I have to bring. and I have sleeping quarters not LQ's. Probably after the new year, the ride needs to get a little more organized and some publicity put out about it. Yes, EF can provide a guide if the group chooses to have a large enough group go out together. Doesn't mean you HAVE to go on the group ride, though, but I'm sure they have a minimum number they'd like to have. The trails are well marked and their maps are excellent so nobody whould get lost (except me, as I'm famous for always being lost!). They do have a very nice covered pavilion with a kitchen and can provide excellent meals if the group is interested. The campground is spread out, but they even provide a mule wagon that makes its rounds during meal time if you want a ride. I know all this because I have worked with them to put on two fund-raising trail rides for the former Tennessee Horse Council in 2006 and 2007, and also have attended other groups' fund-raising rides up there. Gee, in 2009, at the Back Country Horsemen of North GA ride, we had prime rib for dinner one night. And great breakfasts! That's why I'm all for having the meals provided. Good eating. Oh, a friend of mine just came back from an endurance ride at EF and she told me that they have built a few more small cabins over where the primitive camping area is (near the mule barn if you have site map). So there may be more cabin space available. Worth a phone call to check it out if you need a place to stay. Call 1-800-97-TRAIL.

Lynne, You are the perfect person to keep us informed about EF and how to arrange the details. I'll bet that most of us that have made plans are still not 100% committed. I've put a deposit on a cabin. Other than that, I don't even know how I'll get there. I'll know more as we get closer to the date. I agree that we will have to nail a few details down before the trip. I hope as you come up with info to share that you'll continue to post it here. Especially like the available cabins! - you've probably helped several with that information alone. With much gratitude, Whatta

Will speaking for myself of course. I would love the catered meals, but will have to wait until closer to time to know. It would be according to cost, ect. Perhaps we can just do part of it as cater such as on the weekend when most would be there and/or just breakfast and evening meals, ect. We could also do a pot luck the first night, where we could all bring something to contribute such as meat for grilling chips drinks, ect. I think everyone would be able to bring something for the first night, after that it would be harder because some of us will not be in living quarter trailers and would not have a way to prepare a dish, ect. Anyway these things are just food for thought. We will be able to figure it all out better as time gets a little closer and we are sure we are going to be able to come. A lot can happen between now and then so it is hard for us to say for sure about anything just yet. I am hoping to have a gaited horse to ride by then and will be saving my money for the gog tack. I think this would be a great time to do that. I can get horse fitted and make sure I have it tacked correctly. What a better time than with other knowledgeable people around to help. Very excited about it all and cannot wait to see and meet everyone.

Slip, that's a great idea about having a pot luck on the first night. Also I agree that having the meals (breakfast and dinner) catered maybe Fri, Sat, Sun would be a good idea. Those will probably be the heaviest attended days. For those who will be there longer, they are probably able to cook their own or go out. Or we can all go to Whatta and PB's cabins and cook! I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all about East Fork but I've been up there a number of times so I'm familiar with the area, the campsites, etc. and have stayed in some of the cabins. Gosh, I'm even familiar with their emergency rescue and evacuation and the Jamestown hospital (don't want that again).

All will be welcome at my cabin! I might be staying there all by myself. I surely hate that you are familiar with the hospital. We don't want to visit there so don't plan on giving us a tour, OK?

TN I think it is great that you are our "spokesperson" on EF. Gee, even pictures would be nice! I think the meals on the weekend would be good too. That could be a time where we meet each other. We just got back from a few more days camping, I told husband he is off the hook, I am going without him. That will make him change his mind by then. He has always been nervous around people, family including so he is not going to change even in a year. I told him we could go down early and I could socialize only Sat. or Sun. so that might work. I think a pot luck the first night would be good too. Whatta, you know we all might pile up in your cabin!

Oh you know what I was just thinking? I want know most of you by your real names! I will only recognize you by your user names. So when you introduce yourself to me, use your user name as well as your real name, may take my brain awhile to change over so pleaz excuse me if I call you whatta, sdlpal, gatin, dixie, trail rider, ect.! I want be offended if you call me slip. Because that is just what I will probably do when I get there, by mouth or foot! If I can talk my husband into coming for a few days, he loves to cook and can cook anything over an open fire. He does not care much about riding. Actually I think he has only been on a horse once. But he loves to camp, talk, talk, talk, cook and did I mention talk?! He is a paramedic so would be good to have on hand, just in case, but he probably will not be able to stay as long as I want to stay, but since we are only about 3 hours away, he can drive back when he needs to. Anyway, if I can get him to come, he could and would be glad to cook any night and almost every night for us if need be. He is always guilty of cooking more food than my family can eat. So he loves it when he has a chance to cook for others. Oh I am getting very excited about all of this! I am so looking forward to it and meeting everyone.

Well Jake, except for Brenda, you will be the only one I will actually be able to call by name. I don't have an evil twin, just an evil side,ha! But I do have chemo brain and while this is a real result of people that have had chemo, it is something I use to my advantage when I can. Truth is I had a chemo brain before I had chemo, but I am glad that I have something to actually blame all mistakes on now. You are too funny and have a great personality, can't wait to meet you as well! Last edited on Fri Sep 17th, 2010 12:37 am by slipslider ____________________ LaVonne Summertime Stables, LLC |

Yeah, I think we all need name tags with our user names and real names. I'm terrible at remembering names (old age). Maybe we can pick up a name tag when we register and fill it out or write it on our horse's rear ends. Was also thinking that we could each post a name on our trailer where we're camped. Okay "slip" your husband is the official cook and conversation starter! What site are you camped at? Near me, I hope! I don't know if I'll get to East Fork soon - depends on if I can find someone to go with. I will probably go to the Back County Horsemen of North GA ride in April and will take some pics of the campground, Whatta's and PB's cabins, the stalls, and some of the other cabins if I get around them. Since my puter won't let me put pics on it, I'll have to send them to Whatta and have her post. But that's a long way in the future. Pam, your husband won't be forced to socialize. He can always just stay at the trailer, build a campfire and be by himself for a little bit. You can socialize a bit and then go keep him company. I'm next to you and easy to get along with and can join you at your campfire or stay away, whichever makes him comfortable. I'm still hoping to ride with the two of you at least one of the days I'm there so if he doesn't mind that then maybe he'll warm up to others a little bit.

Lynne, I guess I just worry ahead of time. Everything will work out. I am glad you are beside us! And I do want to ride with you. I like the idea about the name tags too. I am trying to match names with faces and user names. It will be fun I know it. I don't know why I am worrying about Jim, I don't do much socializing either, I am pretty backwards!

I am not super creative, but would love to volunteer to make everyone picture name tags. The kind you just hang around your neck (instead of pin on, which can hurt if we get too active) I am thinking this could work like the high school reunions I have been to. They had our pictures on the tags from when we were in high school and our maiden name (for the gals). I could do our face pictures with our usernames and underneath it our real names. And I will make the print larger, for us who need reading glasses l1. Suggestions? I would really be fun and funny to have T-shirts with GOG and our pictures with names, but that could get too pricey. And we would need them for more than one day...CRS????? Think the name tags are best, don't you?

That's a super idea Karen. Go for it! I had thought about t-shirts. But without the pictures, but maybe Gaits of Gold Trail Ride, October 2011, or something like that. It could get pricey and if they didn't all sell, then someone is stuck with a bill.

This year, it would be nice if we didn't change our avatar...that could be confusing. (sometimes it is necessary too) But let's TRY not to change it unless you do it soon so we have time to get used to the new one. Speaking from someone who changed hers not too long ago Should be easy to learn my name...first part of my username....Karen. If we could start signing our real names under our posts could help too.

Man, I'd love a GOG Trailride t-shirt. BYOT-S and sell heat transfers? Should be reasonably priced, I'd think.
