Hi Gang,

Afraid Jake misunderstood the cabin situation - there are still cabins available, and perhaps the two, three-bedroom houses.  You all can 'conspire' to figure out who wants to share space, as the houses are completely furnished (including kitchen), as are the cabins.  It's just that me and whattabutta rented the two primo cabins with 2 bedrooms each AND separate hot tubs.  (Hey, after a long day of riding and visiting, I figure I deserve a hot tub! LOL!)

Also, for those who don't have trailers. . .those of you who have an extra spot, I hope you will contact the folks who are asking for a ride.  I remember how difficult it was when my daughter Jamie was a wee tyke in 4-H, and I had no horse trailer (didn't last long!).  We were at the mercy of the kindness of others - and believe me, we greatly appreciated the offers we got to be able to 'hitch hike' to her 4-H shows!  Some of you who are still w/o trailers might think about picking up something second hand, or borrowing/renting one for the week.  Where there's a will. . .

I expect NBS will have a tent where Imus gear is available to see and purchase.  Haven't figured out the details on that one yet - but I know people always love the chance to view the products in person.

Jake and I are really pumped about this event!

This might be a dumb question but... is this considered an organized ride?  Will we just camp and  hopefully find members to ride with  and just chance a visit with meeting others?  Will there be a meeting place?  Just wondering what is on the minds of others.  I know we are in the early planning stages but I guess I just want to know what to expect.

I have a 3-horse bumper pull slant load with tack room available.  I could probably pick up someone on the way.  It is not a living quarters trailer, and I don't know that I would be able to spend the entire time there, but would be more interested in looking at imus gear and maybe a clinic.  I do NOT like very large rides.  I am used to riding either alone, or with a couple of other people and would be more than happy to ride with a very small crowd who isn't interested in ya-hoo'ing or hot-dogging their horses.  I barrel-raced for 15 years and have had my fill of running.  I live in Georgia and would be coming up I-75, FYI.

Tina, if I go (haven't decided yet, way too early for me to make a decision) that is exactly the kid of riding I like to do.  I would probably go for 3 days.  Would you tent camp?

Oh yea, I would definitely tent camp.  I was thinking more like two days, but could probably be connived into 3 :P.  I've got a 4 man tent with separate zip-up rooms, all the Colman lanterns you need (the real ones, not the cheapy-choppy ones they make today), all kinds of cooking stuff...fishing poles..hey, any ponds there?  If there is a pond, I could definitely be convinced to stay an extra day, I'll just fish

Tina, if you look on the EF map, you'll see the mule barn.  There are nice shaded sites across from the mule barn that are primitive camping and you can hi-line your horse.  I like Campground D, and it's not far from there.  Other primitive ones are around the bend from Campground D and there are good picket places in the woods there, or it's close to the barns.  I always stall my horse.  There are other primitive sites near the pavilion, but it's noisy up there.  I've got company coming in tomorrow and then will be out of town until Apr. 20, but maybe we can PM and see about making reservations close together.  SaddlePal said she'd ride in a very small group too, so that would make 4 and that's a good size for me.

I'll PM you later this month.  No point in discussing it all here.

Yes, there are some ponds up there, but don't know if they have fish.  They probably do.

Tina to the rescue! l1 I was just wondering if I would be out of place in a tent- the ONLY way I camp. So if I go I will definately be in a tent (the tipi). I also have a spare, smaller tipi tent and LOADS of extra camping stuff, so I could accomodate folks w/o LQ who don't mind roughin' it a little.

I don't like to ride w/ huge groups, either. Would be more interested in a clinic and riding in small groups.

Main attraction for me would be meeting all y'all face to face, instead of screen to screen.

That is one beautiful tent!!!!  The weather should be nice in mid October, so bet that would be fun.  You go girls...I am too old for tent camping, but used to love it.   tu1

I was able to reserve a cabin...its way up at the upper end of the trail (3 miles away from campgrounds), but at least we will be able to attend.  Whew!

There are still cabins available too and the houses.

Did you get the Deer Gap Cabin? That one would be great if you like to relax and have a little peace at the end of the day. I had it reserved then changed my reservations to one of the larger cabins because hubby decided we needed to invite friends to come with us.

Yes, that's the one we got.  And we may invite friends to share it with us too.

I did ask if there are places that we could "park" the horses for an hour or so, if we rode down to the camping areas or where you guys are and wanted to take a break.  Sandy told me there are and she feels they have more barns or stalls "in the works" and they very well could be finished by then.

I was just wondering if I would be out of place in a tent- the ONLY way I camp.
I've seen lots of people camping in tents up there, heck some even sweep out the back of their horse trailer and set up a cot in it and sleep in that.  It looks really cozy in there when they do that.  They put down a carpet, air mattress or cot, a light up in the feed manager.  Really creative stuff.  Just 'cause they got fancy hookups doesn't mean you can't ruf it if you want to.  Tent camping is fun, but my old bones just can't take it.  When I was up there last year, a family rented the space next to mine (hookups, etc.) and since the gravel was too rocky to put a tent up, they set it up in the woods behind and bult their cooking/campfire in the area the horse trailer goes in.  Only bad thing about that was the smoke kept coming in my window, but it would have done that with any campfire, and I couldn't complain because I went over to visit them and sat at their campfire.  As a matter of fact, I met LezleeJ from this MB at that campfire.   Theri little girl just had to drag me down to the tent and take me in it so I could see where she slept.

Okay, I'm going to make my reservation when I get back from vacation because it looks like there will be enough people who want to go out in small groups who don't want to ride like yahoo cowboys.

TN, I camped from the back of my trailer for several years when it was just me and my two kids.  We looked like Gypsy's back then.  Had hay and water jugs tied on the side of fender and a chuck box I made that held everything including the kitchen sink! It was very cozy, we put a tarp over the top that kept out condensation.  It was so much fun then.  Now it is LQ and constantly cleaning your feet, shaking off horse hairs to keep everything clean.  At times it is no fun to tell you the truth.  But I am thankful for what we have and we have come a long ways .  It sounds like there will a lot fun camping next year.  I am going for a site in "D" with electric just to save on camper batteries.

Pam and Tina, PM me with the sites you have chosen and I'll see what I can do to get close to them.  Leaving on vacation Sunday and can't get to it until after Apr. 20.

Also, my husband and I would most certainly be tent camping. For the rest of you who are tent camping, let me know where you are so we can get close to you!

Okay, I made my reservations today.  We will be in campground "D" in #8 site.  TN is this a good location?  I would have liked it further up towards the middle but because I asked for a little more room this is where she put us.   She said in January we will need to send a deposit and by early Spring  they would have to know  exactly when we would be coming and leaving.  Is everyone planning on being there earlier than Saturday?  or coming in that day?  An added plus, if you are a Farm Bureau member you will get 10% off if you show your card upon check in.

Made my reservation today for campground B. My friend is tentatively coming too and she would trailer Jaeda for me. Can't wait!

Does anyone know how much it would cost to participate in the clinic?

Hey Pam!

I'll be in D - 4, so we'll be close. I'm just a short hop from east fork, so will be driving over soon to check out my site and make sure it's the one I want. I'll take some pics if you like so you can see if that's where you want to be.
