Thank you for understanding how long it will take to get us back on our feet. I honestly don't know when we will be back on horses. I gave Little Girl back to Becky. Her injuries were very minor. We still have the QH mare, Lace. She is the retired old spoiled mare of Neal's. I'm glad to still have her to look at in the pasture. It is hard for me to believe that within a couple on months, we buried my Taylor and Neal's Sunny. We also buried my little Sammie dog. I haven't seen home since the day of the accident. I don't want to see home until I am able to do for myself a lot more. Neal will probably be there before me. I hope he vacuums. ;)

I wondered what you did with Little Girl. I was asking then I deleted it off. She will still be there for you I am sure when you are ready. It is so good that your mom is able to take care of you and help out. My mom passed away this January and it is still hard sometimes. I want to ask her questions about cooking or something else. I have always needed her when I was sick and I am in my 50's. There is nothing like being able to run to your mom for help and comfort even when we are older. I know your mom is very glad to be taking care of you. Well, sister I think we better get off this puter and get some rest. Good night!

This year has been a season of change for so many, many people and not just from the economy tanking. I am amazed when I think about who and what; not least of all, you, Sharon and Neal. Your accident happened instantaneously but your changes will continue for years. I thank God it wasn't worse and that amazing changes have come about not only for you but for us here on the MB. We are so glad you are able to come and visit again over the www-fence. Hopefully, we can give you back some of the support you've offered us for so long. God bless and give you comfort, peace, and healing.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this thread. Whatta, I am so very grateful you are feeling well enough to get back on the board. We all have missed you so much and have grieved for you with everything that has happened. Tell Neil hello for all of us and Tom that we are proud of him...and maybe drooling a little. Gosh it's good to "hear" your voice. Hugs, Katie

Love that sense of humor there Whatta!!! Keep that up, as I know you will. What you both have been thru already is nighmarish, but the alternative? Thanks for the explanation, but didn't you leave out a broken heel? Or did I miss it? Geez, but you and Neal must have been living right...whew! Karen

Yeah, Whatta, your sense of humor is what is going to get you healed up quicker then normal. I'm utterly convinced that those who have a positive outlook on life, a willingness to work to get over their sickness or problems, and most of all who have a sense of humor always heal well. With all your attributes, you'll come thru this with flying colors! Just hang in there.

Whatta, it is so great to finally hear from you and Neal. I know we have been driving Brenda nuts. She has been so good about keeping us posted. You have both been in my thoughts each day as well as my prayers. Keep up the good work. As far as your son goes...I know the commitment that goes with that body building stuff. Diet workouts etc. Congrats to him and to both you and Neal as his parents for giving him the ethic to be able to stick with it. It's obvious where he gets it from. rsmoody

My home computer crashed so I am only able to check in now and then. But want you to know that I am thinking of you and your family always. I too am so glad that you are now able to pop in to say hello because of the love and generosity of others. We are all truly blessed to be a part of this group and to be able to share in your ups and downs. Take care, LaVonne

I went to the surgeon today. There, they did a bunch of x-rays of my leg injuries. They removed the cast from my left leg and replaced it with a boot. The boot is rugged and heavy. I'm not sure what to think of it. An order was written for another 6 weeks of therapy. This time to my left ankle and right knee. However, I am still to remain non-weight bearing which makes me wonder why I need that rugged boot. Anyway, it is very good to see my leg once again and good to wash off all the yucky dry skin and it is good to know that I don't have to sleep in the boot. Also, the external fixator on my right leg might be removed in another month or so. I suppose a cast will take its place. The ankle on that leg is still very bad. I felt sick to look at the x-rays. It is so broken. I have to ask you and I thank you to continue to pray for us. Whatta

It sounds like you are mending. I know you feel some better just to see your leg again. Don't feel bad in asking us to pray for you, we will continue to lift you and Neal up in our prayers, that is what family is all about. It also helps our faith. How is Neal doing?

Ah Whatta, I just could not help but heave a huge sympathetic sigh when I read your comment about your ankle. I will continue to pray for you and your husband's healing both physical and emotional. What a tough road I would not care to travel! You are so courageous in handling your situation. Big cyber hug! [PB we need an emoticon for that!] [4]

Modern medicine, combined with the power of prayer, can accomplish incredible things! If you can trust your doctors to handle the first part, Whatta, all of your friends will hold you up in prayer until you and Neal are whole again. You can rely on it.

Gee, you all are the best folk for friending that anyone could ever hope to have. I pray if there be any young people in your lives that they have an eye on you because you are excellent examples of humanity at its best. Thanks for asking about Neal. He has been to the ortho/trama surgeon only one time. He was told he could remove the brace from his right leg but still cannot put any weight on that side. He cannot bend deeply to sit, cannot bend over to touch his toes. His hip is doing good and he returns to the doctor in another month or so as well. We are concerned about his right foot because he has 'foot drop'. Have any of you heard of this? It is when the foot hangs (toes pointed to the ground) all the time. He cannot make it move. He has been through rehab. I believe this is caused from nerve damage. I know you will be praying for him as well. Thanks! Yep. WE are so LUCKY! Whatta

Whatta, I was diagnosed with "foot drop" quite a few years ago, but mine is not severe the way you describe your husband's issue. I believe the root cause of mine went back to an old spinal fracture of L-1. I was having issues with tripping on my left leg. They did a nerve conduction study and sure enough, part of the nerves in my left leg don't "fire". Fortunately most of the leg has good proprioception [feeling], but if I load that leg just the wrong way, I'm going down! I've learned to work around it, but I do stub those toes and trip more times than I care to admit. To onlookers I just look clutzy, but really it is just my toes catching the ground as I place my foot. I'll catch the toes, and trip forward a little bit. Likely Neal will have to become very aware of how he uses that leg. Does he have sensation in the foot? I have a path of minimal sensation that I can trace outward on the skin from my foot to my hip. It's pretty weird. Again, praying for healing! [4]
