I just read an e-mail sent to me from a friend of whattarack (Sharon), telling me that she and her husband Neal were involved in a horrific car accident on Saturday.  They are both hospitalized with a number of serious injuries, and scheduled for surgeries tomorrow (Monday, 9/28).

Here's an excerpt from Stephanie's e-mail:  "Neal has been put into a room, with a broken leg, fractured hip and 3 broken ribs.  They will be doing surgery him Monday.  Sharon is in ICU, she has a left broken heel, right broken ankle and fibula, She also has 4,5, 6 vertebrae damage, 4 collapsed.  They are both in traction, Sharon right leg and neck both and Neal's leg.  She is in alot of pain, they will be doing surgery on her right leg tomorrow morning and Monday they will do the surgery on her neck.   They were on there way to come to the horse ride we have at Hoffman for the weekend when a man and woman run a stop sign.  They hit the front pass. side of the truck.  The man and woman did not make it, which we have NOT told Sharon that part.  I will also like to tell you that Neal's new horse got hurt really bad in this too, and she had to be put down.  Which we have also NOT told Sharon about.   She is going through so much right now, that Becky (her niece) with the rest of us feel she needs to get a little better before we tell her."

You all know how special Sharon is - the glue that holds this Message Board together, but more than that, a friend who has personally seen me through the roughest patch of my life.  I love her dearly, and know that many of you do as well.  Let's all agree in prayer that there will be a successful outcome to the surgeries, and an faster than expected recovery.

I haven't been able to get in touch with Stephanie (who I am so grateful to for contacting me), but if Sharon is agreeable, I'll be flying down for a few days during/after her and Neal's surgeries.

This is so, so tragic. . .can't wrap my head around it yet.

Brenda

Good grief.  This poor woman has been through so much already.  I will definitely be praying for her and her husband.

Brenda, I am in Reidsville, NC and if there is anything I can help with I would be happy to do so.  I think that Sharon is about an hour from my house.  If you need a ride to and/or from the airport, I could certainly pick you up.  Greensboro airport (PTI) is about 1/2 hour from me.

Please keep us posted as to their progress.

Diane

Brenda:  My prayers and thoughts are with your friends and their loved ones.  While those are good things, money is, most times, a huge part of recovery.  If they have a fund or if you are aware of a bank accepting donations, please let the board know and I will be more than happy to donate.

Sincere Regards,

Tina

The mental, emotional, physical, financial and spiritual impact of catastrophic life events such as what just happened to Sharon and Neal is a hard, hard road to travel upon.  It's a test of character, fortitude and willpower of all who are touched to find the strength to overcome and sort through the hand just dealt.

Experiencing the multiple types of pain they are going through I would wish on no one.  I am very sad that they have to journey down this path.  I will be praying for Sharon and Neal to remain strong and have faith in themselves, their family, friends and God to see them through this.

Life as we know it sometimes changes so quickly.  Sharon is gifted with the ability to communicate in a kind, positive, uplifting way and is indeed very special.  Love to Sharon, Neil and their families and to you as well Brenda.

Please keep us posted on her progress.

Susan

Thanks for sharing this heart-wrenching news, PB. I am just stunned by it. I worry and pray that all heals quickly and without incident, in every way. Whatta has been a good sister to me. God bless her and hers.

Hugs,

--Debbie in DAwsonville

Oh, the swiftness with which life changes - I am stunned beyond belief at this news.

Dear Sharon - you were a rock for me during several life events during the past 2 years and before.  We are standing shoulder-to-shoulder in our support of you and Neal and your full recovery.  Daily prayers on your behalf for whatever comfort our Lord and Savior provides that you need at this time.  If there is anything else you think I can provide, please don't hesitate to contact me.

With Our Lord's Love, Susan

This is such a special family. . .and Sharon is our rock.  I know we will all find a way to give back to her, each in our own way.  May the Lord lead. . .

I am also horrified by these events and my thoughts are certainly with them and their family.  Brenda, is there a central address where we can all send a get well card to them?  I know you can't give out Sharon's address, but maybe we could send them to you and you can stuff them all in a box and send them to her.  Would that be possible?

We are still in shock, as you all are.  I will pull things together tomorrow, and let everyone know where cards, etc. can be sent.

My thoughts?  She and Neal will not have an income for awhile.  (Ouch!)  These are tough times, in the best of circumstances.  They will need our help.

Ideas?

This makes me realize how special  this GOG family really is. . .

Love,

Brenda

wow, this is has been such a hard year for her. i like the fact of the fund to help financially but seriously, how much could we possibly get together for them? if anyone has a church or large work where they could start a donation fund that might generate more. also, and i know i hate to say this, but if north carolina doesn't have the 'no fault law' maybe they could collect from the other drivers insurance. i know no one wants to hear this right now. do they have family who can take care of those things for them until they get better? until then brenda, are you going to be in charge of the donations? please let us know because we did all help ct and this is a little more important in my eyes. i will be praying for their recovery and strenght.

Horrid.  Just horrid.  This will take time not only physically but mentally.  Tell her we will be there for her.

Sharon has been through so much already, and she seems to face tough situations with more fortitude than most of us could muster.  She will surely need it all now. My heart and prayers go out to her and her family.. may their physical and emotional recovery be swift and full.

I am among the many who will be looking for ways to be useful to our friend who gives so much so freely...

How AWFUL!!! I get chills just reading about this - we all know how excited she was for that ride - and then this.  Beyond words...... :(

I'm not much of a religious person....but I'll DEFINITELY be sending some prayers - and will wait for updates on anything we can do to help.

I am numb ~ tears ~ Why?   Ours is not to ask why.  Lord, hold 'em tight. Send healing and peace.  I cannot fathom.  Prayer also for the family that lost loved ones.

Thanks for passing one this info Brenda.  When you get to see whatta ~ pass on our prayers to her and Neal.
