If you have ever seen a bare Aussie tree, they have a portion in front that goes down along the shoulder. This is not appropriate for optimum freedom of shoulder movement in our gaited horses IMHO. The stuffing is also another problem area. A person can ride a gaited horse in any saddle and bit that they choose, but improvement in gait quality and behavior comes when you use tack that is comfortable and gets out of the way, and helps the horse to best use his body.

If that is your goal, Brenda has worked out all of the possible solutions and designed the Comfort Gait bit and 4-Beat saddle. There is no other saddle that even can come close in all the features engineered into the 4-Beat. Browse around the threads and see for yourself what is in this saddle. Other saddle styles are like comparing apples and oranges.:)

well thanks for that but it does not really answer my question I haven't seen complaints ably English saddles any gaiety horses so I wondered if they was because th saddles are so much smaller. I've never ridden English and have no plans to I'm simply curious about that and was hoping for some enlightenment.

Hi babs,

There is not enough of a market among my followers to produce and market an English saddle.  I do have the Endurance model 4-Beat saddle.  While it's built on my standard Western tree, it has a narrower twist, and can be ordered with stirrup leathers, rather than Western fenders.  It might be just the ticket!

I cannot comment on the appropriateness of an Aussie saddle, since every model is different.  Some work on some horses, some are always poor choices.  It's very individualized.

Good luck!

This question is not because I ride english, but because I use an Aussie saddle, and it fits like an English saddle, only it's bigger.

I need a new saddle because we (My TWH gelding and I) got in a "wreck" two years ago, and my Aussie got pretty battered. The horse is fine, I've mended. I'd like another Aussie, but after seeing Brenda at the Equine Expo in Ohio, I'm feeling unsure about that choice.

Brenda, have you ever looked at Aussies for fit and appropriateness for run-walk?
And, no, My boy is not well gaited, he trots in the pasture, and does a nifty stepping pace under saddle, which I now know is bad. I've been working him at the walk and have had him in a four beat gait twice for a very short time now. I think he racks, but we'll see. I'm getting a comfort gaits bit (it's on order).

so now 'm wondering if the Aussie is too stiff. Anyway, why no gaited english saddles?
