Brenda, in a recent thread a member posted a picture of her bit that was broken and it appeared that they have been making them from plain steel with chrome plating instead of the nicely made stainless steel to which we have come to know and love.

I am just about going crazy wondering if that is the case. Won't you tell us what's up here? I could use another bit for a spare, but I don't like the idea of them not being up to what I call 'Imus standards'. I love all your products due in no small part to the superior high quality that they've always been known for......

I saw that post and was waiting for Brenda's reply. She must be very busy as she will usually post right away.

So until she is able to reply, I will post one I found on the topic that Brenda posted Jan 12, 2010. Perhaps it will help, until she is able to clarify as I remembered there was a problem a couple of years back, with some becoming separated just where this bit is broken. I believe the any and all problems have been resolved at this point.

Hi all,

It's come to my attention (thanks to all of YOU who look out for my interests!) that someone is offering a "Comfort Shank Bit" that appears identical to the one I originally marketed, but without my name on the shanks, and for less money.

This has come about as a result of a few things. First, the original manufacturer of these bits changed the internal workings of the bit without my knowledge. This resulted in some bits separating at the center joint. . .creating a real problem for me and NBS, as we had to decide what type of warranty was reasonable, under the circumstances. We offered a full one year, and partial two year, warranty on the product - even though we had no way to recoup our own losses.

As soon as we realized this had happened, we went to an entirely different supplier, and had the bit re-designed. However, this new supplier has not been able to keep up with customer demand, creating a lot of backorders. This mean(s) there's a large demand for a product that isn't always readily available.

So the original distributor of the ICB bit is now making the inferior version of my product (those bits we rejected) available through 'off the grid' sellers. They can afford to dump these cheap versions of the bit at a fraction of the cost that our higher quality product sells for. (Grrrr!!!!) However, the bits will not hold up well with wear - and no doubt some people are going to think these are genuine 'Imus' bits, and come complaining to me and NBS when that proves to be the case.

Please don't be fooled. A quality SS bit with as many intricate mechanical parts as the ICB has cannot possibly be manufactured and sold for less cost than the ICB. You will get what you pay for in this circumstance - which may well be an unhappy horse with an abraded tongue. Bobby Beech is continually working to get the ICB off of backorder, and this is one time when patience will pay rich dividends.

Please pass the word on this, as many people may be duped otherwise.

On a related note: I'm now communicating with a future stateside manufacturer for my bits who enjoys an excellent reputation for quality, reliability, and reasonable cost. I fully expect that within a few months the ICB will be proudly "Made in America!"

Ya, I'm familiar with the older situation and thank you for bringing that back to light. I've seen those online for a much cheaper price and always steered clear of them. (Hint: they don't put the word IMUS on their listing). This member though, stated that she bought her bit directly from National Bridle Shop, Brenda's one and only authorized distributor. That's why I'm wanting to find out the heart of the matter here. I know that when she gets back to the board she will jump on this if there is somebody trying to cut her fences again.

Thanks for holding the fort on this for me, slip.  I have been crazy busy.  Hosted two large Thanksgiving get-togethers.  Had barely recouped from that when my precious grandbaby Sophie became ill with a double ear infection and bronchitis (or pneumonia).  Her Mama Jamie also fell ill, so I've been at their house helping out till they get to feeling better.

What I posted earlier is true.  However, it is also true that one of our own providers of the bit took shortcuts for awhile - this was well over a year ago now - and we ended up selling an inferior product without knowing it, until the bits started separating and failing.  When that happens, we replace them.  I would have had a recall, but at the time we had two different providers, and no way of knowing who purchased the good bits, and who purchased the inferior ones.  On top of that, we didn't know how long that provider had been short-changing us.  It's been a dilemma!

On a happier note, we are now working exclusively with our original provider, who has gone back to the design we originally had.  The materials are stainless steel and copper, and the rod in the center of the mouthpiece is long enough, and strong enough, to hold up.

No one ever warned me that bringing products to market could be such a challenge!

Whoever posted this photo originally should send the bit to Jake, and we'll replace it with a new ICB.
