I went to see and fell in love with a Registered TWHBEA 9 yr old mare sired by Spotted Alen Again.  She's lovely and so far seems like quite a stroke of luck.  I can bring her home on a couple weeks trial as soon as I get someone to go with me...grrrr!  Gal I board with, is tied up today.  She rode her and said she was totally blown away by her gaits and sensitivity...so smooth!  She hadn't been ridden since Oct. and the owner said the mare is way too talented for her and a little more spirited than she wants.  Owner knows very little about gaited horses and really wants a dead broke QH.

Anyone know about his offspring?  What I can find online looks quite fabulous to me. I feel like her spirit is more like a racking horse than TWH and she appeared to be doing a rack yesterday.  She's a beautiful Tobiano with a small amount of white, but has 4 white stockings, a tiny star on her forehead and a snip of white on her black nose.

Will put pics on soon as I get her home.

I like the way she is put together. I am betting that her best gait will be racking. I kinda hope she is short coupled and if she has to lean toward one side or the other on the gait spectrum that she will lean toward the trotty side.

She's the perfect age and if she was brought up proper, it wouldn't matter if she hasn't been rode in a couple of weeks or a couple of years - she'll be honest and right as rain.

Let us know how the trial period goes. r1

Sharon, I am hoping that you are right...but I am so curious how you can tell that she might rack by looking at her...(except for many years of experience which won't help me)

Mira is Spotted Alen breeding, but by Alen's half brother, who's Sires are both, Shadow's Spotted Alen, hence her prefix in her name Shadow's .

She is a very natural racking mare, no pace, lots of go and very heads up, but also very level headed and spooks in place with the big leg spread planting of the feet.

She has also been the easiest on gait training, it was just there from day one, you just really had to only speed her up or slow her down, you can ride her daily or monthly or a few times a year and within a short warm-up period you would not know when she was rode last, she is that consistant and smooth.

I was guessing her gait by what I see of her front and rear angles. As if drawing an imaginary line from her point of wither to her point of chest, from her point of chest to her point of arm. Then then from her point of hip to her point of butt, from her point of butt to her point of stifle. Comparing the angles, they appear to be close to the same angles. I was thinking that if she was short coupled then maybe she wouldn't ever break to pace. In the pic, she looks put together like Taylor. Did you say how tall she is? She looks maybe 14.2h ?

Here are the angles Brenda put on Mira if that helps.

Wow, exciting news and look how similar the markings?  This is all great info and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed she's constant like Mira too.

Whatta, thanks...knew it was something like that.  That's so interesting!  We will measure her today, but we are guessing no more than 14.3...owner said 15, (she had never measured) but will let you know.

When I saw the first picture I thought how much see looked like Spotted's Mira.  Sounds like you are in for some exciting times with your new horse.

Karen,

Look at the latest pic you posted of that mare . . . whatever that red thing is behind her (probably a bucket) looks like an "Easy Button" like the one mentioned in the commercials for Staples Office Supplies.

So, she comes with an Easy Button!!!

The owner mentioned her talent and her spirit in a way that leads to believe the mare might want to rush a little. If so, do try Brenda's check and release as she describes in her training article. If she's in that habit, you'll have her settled down in no time.

i1 Ooops. Sorry, I'm so excited, I just realized I'm jumping way ahead here.

Yes. I like her that much already. Please report back soon. r1

She DOES have an EASY button!  That is one of those plastic apple toys in the pasture behind her.

I rode her yesterday and she does not rush and is LOVELY and SMOOTH as silk!  I have never ever ridden any horse this smooth.  Will get a short video link on here soon.

I'm in love!

Thanks everyone.  I have ridden her for short periods of time now for 6 days in a row and done lots of groundwork checking for spookiness.  So far she crosses a tarp, let me wad it up and put it on her back, even drag it behind her without a problem.  She crosses the little bridge and loves the pedestal.  She will move off your leg so nicely and when you drop your reins she will stand still calmly.  I think she might do well in a trail class with all the obstacles.

She is settling in nicely and most of the whinnying for her buddies is gone.

Though I am sore, we may take a trail ride today - weather is fabulous!

Vet is coming Friday, so that will tell the tale.  If nothing serious, she'll be mine.  Keep your fingers crossed.

A horse like that is so hard to find. Fingers (and toes) crossed.

Vet check went great...they were very impressed with all her vitals and amount of flexion in legs.  Couldn't find anything of concern at all.

This past Saturday, hubby and I took a trail ride, with the gal we board with went along too, and had a blast!  She couldn't have been any nicer, noticed things, but no spook or even a slow down.  We moved out a little on the way home and it was like glass.

She followed and then took the lead a few times without being concerned, so I am now her proud owner.  And we named her Lacey.

Soon as she gets a proper bath...have only gotten some of that red clay off her legs, I'll take some more pics.
