Thanks all - your good wishes mean a lot.  Been very uncomfortable, and taking pain meds - HATE that feeling.  Makes me sleepy, itchy, and bitchy!  Jake has been a saint (even tho he did push me down on the ice. . .)  l1

Surgery is tomorrow morning, at a hospital an hour's drive from here.  Been fighting the insurance co. tooth & nail, but today they informed me that the doctor and the procedure will be covered 'in network.'  Thank God, or this would have been a real financial setback.

I'm to spend several days doing nothing, so will have Jake keep you all posted.  Meantime, thanks for your prayers!

Whatta Butta thanks for planting "it's Jakes fault seed"  That one grew very quickly and I don't mind a bit.

Actually PB was showing me she could still do cartwheels.

As Brenda has said outpatient surgery tomorrow morning at St Vincents Health Center and we have found an outstanding micro-surgeon.   SHE is one of the very best in the area.

We will be back home in the afternoon.

Thank You one and all for your get well wishes and prayers.

Oh, good. I'm glad you got the surgeon you wanted. It really is aweful to have to wait around with a broken bone. The meds are horrible, I know. Did you ask the doc about taking Allegra for the itch? I think it is OK even with high blood pressure. It shouldn't cause sleepiness either.

Did you find a cast cover? It will save you a lot of time when you want to shower or swim. No wrapping with bags and tape - and, it's not too expensive.

Ask about taking extra vitamin D and extra Calcium and maybe some extra B as well.

And if there is no casting but swelling occurs, you can mix 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol with 2/3 cup water in a zip lock bag and freeze it to make a slushy soft ice pack.

Let us know how it goes, Jake.

Maybe take along some crackers, water, a blanket and a bucket (with a lid) in case PB feels yucky on the way home.

I really didn't mean to imply that it was all your fault. After all, I know she had to do something to make you mad before you plowed her to the ground and stepped on her arm. w2

Ditto on the "heal fast" wishes.  Whatta can probably give you any information you need to know on broken bones, phys therapy, solutions on how to get things done.

Haven't' had a status report from you Whatta.  Everthing going okay?

I know this is an old post and I trust you are now doing well and very busy as usual. But I was wondering what ever happened with Joker?

Joker is alive and well and is a yearling now. Joker is starting to roan out and is a very handsome young gelding.

I have just now returned from our Amish ferriers with Joker and a few other horses to get their feet done.

Kewl story about our ferriers, they are the Raber brothers. Joe, Levi and Dan. Joe is the oldest at 25 years of age, Dan is 20 and Levi is 18.

I haul 3 horses at a time and I made two trips today. Both times I had to wait for huge trailer loads of thoroughbreds from the Hamburg and Batavia race tracks (suburbs of Buffalo NY).

Those horses are hauled 1 and a half hours one way to be brought to the Raber brothers to be shod. The Rabers Blacksmith Shop is a half hour from us in the other direction.

It is fun to go to their shop, Brenda and I always pick up a treat for them and they just love it. Joe the oldest is one of the most intelligent young men that I have ever met.

Yesterday Brenda went with me and after we left there we went to another Amish Farm owned by Noah Miller and visited with Noah and his wife Matty. This morning when I went to the Rabers they knew all about Brenda and I stopping at Noahs. Amish communications lines are faster than the telephone.

I also have to tell you that when I first met the Rabers after meeting Brenda I had to go through a grilling and screening tougher than getting my top secret clearance with the government. They had to know my whole lifes history where I grew up where I worked the whole ball of wax. After which I am very happy to say that I have met with their approval and judged worthy of being with Brenda.

I am sorry for the rambling post but I can honestly say I had a great day today.

Jake, thanks for the update and for sharing that wonderful tale!  I'm glad that we can still get Joker updates.  I must say, I talk about him pretty often and have sent a link to his picture more times than I can count!

I've found myself talking about Joker again and bringing up this picture to show a friend!  Do you have any more recent pictures of him??  Or at least an update on how he'd doing?

He's still as wildly colored as ever, and going to be a very big, well-muscled horse.  Right now it's either heavy snow or rain/mud all around the farm - not great for taking show-off shots.  We'll get some when things clear up a bit, though.

I'm so jealous - still have a "no riding" moratorium until the medical issue is addressed.  *sigh*  So please, have double the fun on my behalf?
