Wow.  Those are awesome pictures.  Especially this time of year it makes me want to RIDE.

Although I am fortunate to live in Oregon with relatively close (4 hrs drive) access to marvelous wilderness areas, a large part of my riding is done in the winter months on a whitetail deer habitat management area close to my house.  From about October to June, that is primarily where I ride because the trails are either snowed in or have trees down and are unpassable.  Believe me, by May, I am sick of that ranch.  Most of the time my husband won't even go with me.  But for me, it's the fact that I am on my horse.  Not where I am or where I can go, but I'm on my horse.

There is an added factor of steep, hilly terrain so my horses never get out of shape.  Every ride is a workout with lots of water, mud, slop, etc.  Great training.

I don't know if these pics encourage me or break my heart. I do know that if I don't get up on a horse again, I'll be living with a hole so big in my heart . . . . Ack! I can't take it. bh bh bh

PH, You're KILLING ME! l1

WHata, Those are pictures from last JUNE,  It's not my fault somebody bumped them to the top.

traildancer, Antelope Island is like that for me. By late March, I don't care if I see it again. But by next January I've got cabin fever and it's close by and accessable.

Camanae wrote: Hey ph,

Have you done the Antelope Island ride?  Is it worth the 7 hour haul to do?

Looks awesome!  Our grand kids live in SLC so we do come up regularly, but we usually leave the horses home.  :)

You keep us up to speed on your great adventures.   Do you ever get a gaiter that is cowy?  I've had several, but it is almost like the instinct to herd was bred out, or not in....y'know what I mean?

Camanae,

The MFT's were originally bred to herd cows in the Ozarks., and some lines retain their talent for cow savvy.  Here's a link to a site that might have good info on that subject;  http://www.bucksandspurs.com/World_Champion_Titles.htm.

PH, your contributions and photos are a wonderful addition to this MB.  Thanks for sharing so generously.

We've had 4 feet of snow here the past week or so.  And it's really, really  cold.  I'm staying inside until things thaw out a bit.  Miss the horses. . .but it's just too darn wintery to really enjoy them right now.

Helps me appreciate summer!

It's been cold here also.  Maybe not as cold as what some of you have been experiencing.  It was 10* when I went out to feed yesterday.  And that's cold enough that I don't get very excited about sitting on a horse.

Winter will last another 6 - 8 weeks.  But I know we will get a week or two when it'll warm up into the high 30's maybe even 40 for a few days. And I'll sneek out during those sunny days.

Painted, some day you are going to answer a knock on your front door and when you open it there are going to be 200 MB members waiting to go riding...

I remember that thread, and I don't care if the pics are from June- I really needed a boost. That was a perfect reminder that this (snow) too shall pass. In time. As quickly as possible. Hopefully really, really soon. Fast. Before I lose my ever-lovin' mind......

As my daughters grow up, it's getting harder and harder to get them to spend a weekend riding with me. Jobs, School, boys, and other activities are taking more of their time.

So I guess I better get a few of you geared up to come visit so I have somebody to ride with.

Painted, I know what you mean.  My two kids and I would go camping and riding all the time and then Boom! they were growing up and I was camping alone and it wasn't fun.  My son doesn't have time at all and I have to beg my daughter to take time to come and ride with me.  But thankfully I have a great husband who is (almost) as horse crazy as me.

Folks, it snowed in Ocala, Florida. I live between there and Gainesville, Fl. We got snow last Saturday and a little on Sunday. Florida snow but it was still snow. It's finally warming back up. The yankees were NOT happy. l1

That's a nice adventure based from the pictures you've posted. I've also experienced something like this at a certain Ranch in Texas called V-bharre Ranch. The place is really great and I got lots of photos from there. Maybe you should also try to visit this ranch.
