Jamie took some pics of Crystal Belle for me this a.m. - loved the excuse to go up to the pasture and enjoy some sunshine.

Unfortunately her lovely flaxen mane and tail aren't showing - but this gaited gal is really flashy. She's around 15.1hh now, but will grow at least another three inches (coming three). Look how short those legs are for her height!

Can you tell I'm really taken with this filly? Her dam is the black mare Belle featured our our DVD series. . .one of the nicest horses we've ever had the pleasure of owning. Crystal was the only foal we could get her to settle with, so Belle is due to leave here this afternoon for her new home in Wyoming. We're gonna miss her - but through Crystal (who is a keeper) she will live on through Gaits of Gold Stables.

She is very alert, with the combiination of also being cooperative and willing. I think she'll take good care of me. . .and do it in style.

Crys is registered Walkaloosa. I'm considering a gaited few spot stallion for purchase now, to cross on my Walky fillies. . .

What a pretty girl!  Any chance of a palomino walkaloosa down the way? I'd definitely be interested in a spot of gold!

Spot of Gold? Love it!

Whattarack I love her head too.  A while back my mom mentioned Crystal and I said, she's the one with the pretty head right?  I love her head and she's a sweety (although she was laying down in the pasture when we went to get her and is a mud-puppy).

Just to clarify, that pic was taken in front of the barn and pasture where all the construction vehicles have been going.  My mom's post sounded like the pic was taken in the pasture that's pure mud.  It's not.

Nice looking filly!  Alot of bone for a youngster.  Hard to believe she came from a  black mare!  The sire must really throw color!

She's gorgeous. You mention that her legs are short for her height. Is that a good trait in a horse or an indication that she will still grow?????

Short legs = low center of gravity = good weight bearing ability. Many tall horses have long 'willowy' builds, making them able to handle less weight than their shorter counterparts. A tall horse with short legs has an awesome ability to handle even very large riders. They are also less prone to leg soundness problems than long legged animals.

I really like that filly's build & look. She is gonna be one powerhouse of a horse. This is how I like a horse built too. Belle has served you well in many ways.

Chris, I've heard that used alot how accurate is it usually and how young can you use it?  Wouldn't it be off if the horse has short or long legs compaired to his body?

Thanks,

Daylene

It's supposed to be quite accurate after age 2.  I don't know if that includes gaited horses because they seem to mature later.  Susan

Its just a rule of thumb yall go out and meashure your full grown horses legs from the corranet band to the middle if the knee and see how close they are 15.5 in =15 1/2hh on most full grown horses its close . I think i read that a horse gets its fill leg length 12 and 18mo .

lol ya know. i was sitting here waiting on my youngest sons' bus to arrive, reading this post. and of course i thought "wow what an awesome filly!"

then i thought, "walkaloosa.......hmmmm. if i had a colt walkaloosa, i could name it fozzy bear, or some variation, after the bear from the muppets! then i could 'walka walka walka' down the trail."

and then i realized i had way too much time on my hands and i think i need more stalls to clean l1

*edited for spelling error DOH!*
