Pam, I have had good luck using Skin-So-Soft on my thumb and swiping it in the ears real good several times to get rid of those darn bloodsucking midges. It would be worth a try if they are tormenting your pony.;)

I did try that. Also tried mineral oil, olive oil, baby oil. crisco. It seems as though the oil made him shake his head, I guess that it would run down his ears. Aloe seem to work the best but I have to put it on more often. Th oils seemed to "cook" his raw skin. Aloe make the hair grow back in faster. Rinsing him in vinegar water helped. I was think about getting garlic and making a tea out of it and sprayin him down with that but I havenot done it yet. Neighbor feed garlic to her horse. I also heard that a sulphur slat block would help, but I can't find one here.
