This horse has been in my life for as long as I can remember in the form of a postcard that always found its way from the bottom of the picture box into my hand. I always thought that somehow this horse belonged to a member of my family tho I have no proof of that. It just seems like it would have been an honor to own it.

More than likely, it is just a nice postcard that happens to be in the family picture box. Thought I'd share.

Notice the Indian Head markings and the markings of a Scottie dog with the dog ears being the ear of the horse. See it?

That is pretty neat, I get the Indian but not sure about the dog yet.

The profile of a sitting scottie dog is found on the horse's head. The horse's ears are the ears of the dog. The dog is facing the opposite direction of the horse.

Took a bit of study, but I see 'em! hmmm.....wonder what the other side of the horse looks like? What a neat postcard; the background setting is beautiful too, and for sure wasn't Photo-shopped!

Here is what the postcard says on the back:

Pocahontas, the horse that puzzled the world was foaled in Campbell County, Virginia,  August 15, 1935 with a perfect copper-colored Indian head on neck and shoulder and a Scottie dog on head, the horse’s ears forming the dog ears. Her picture appeared in Life Magazine June 10, 1940. One of Robert Ripley’s “Believe It or Not” also on John Hick’s “Strange As It Seems” and also was published by Associated Press.

Owned by R.L. Anderson and J.F. Daniel, Craigsville, Virginia

I love to find pictures in horses markings,  kind of like lying in the yard when you were little making pictures in the clouds.

Just the coolest thing!  Not only markings are amazing but the fact that you kept the post card so long!  It's an heirloom-might actually be considered a collectable and worth  $75.00 or more!  TFStu1tu1
