Read about this in a grooming book, and thought I'd try it on Vi - luckily she was a very good sport about standing for 1 1/2 hours while I did it!

Technically, this is not a braid at all, but rather a banding technique. Mainly used nowadays on the baroque breeds (can you imagine how beautiful this would be on a knee-length mane?)

Just bought some purple bands for the next time I do this (since her name is Violetta, all of her equipment is violet) - I think they'll look really pretty onthat black mane - anyway, thought I'd share these pics with you - just click on the link below:

She really looks great with that look.  I have directions for that style as my horse has a long thick mane but never got around to it.  Gee , glad to know it takes so long.

That looks nice on her,  I have done it too on my mare and it does look really nice with a long mane that you can go all the way to the end of the braids with the pattern.

I've done that on Mo's short mane and love the look, even though he has a short mane.  It's my avatar pic :)

That does look awesome tu1  Probably a great time to spend with your horse as well, besides riding.  Stroker has kind of a medium mane.  There's a part closer to his poll that always wants to flip over to the other side.  Maybe I'll try something like that to help train it to stay on the correct side.

Did you ever go all the way down with it?

T.
