OOOO,

I want in on this  ;)  I love my bush bred blue blooded Banjo (say that three times fast...) He isn't registered, has three stud options for his daddy, all registered, but I haven't done a paternity test as I adore the Gomer just like he is, and my grand children aren't even a tiny bit concerned about his parentage.  He is royalty around here, and a Missouri Foxtrotter, that much we know cuz he gaits like a dream.

Everyone oughta have a horse like him at least once in their lifetime.  I think...I might be the luckiest person on earth  :D

Hey,

I could be just a little biased...and I know how to make good horses, this one is just very relaxed...it's a Gomer thing.

Cultivating a relationship with your horse is a super adventure, one that gets better and better with time, and the p's.

Patience, Persistence, Practice.

Absolutely! I've had Hope since Nov. and I can't begin to describe how far she's come in just 7 months. She went from hardly listening to me at all to hanging onto my every cue and movement. Now if I could just get her out of her buddy sour issues she would be perfect t2

BTW, she's a Generator mare :)

"The hit on this horse was, a lot of trainers put him down hard. They said you can't fix [sore] his colts - they won't take it. Such trainers were missing the message that my Dad and Harlin Hayes were trying to convey, which was: "We've got a horse that you don't need to fix that way, he does it naturally.""

Just musing if this over the years just translated into "Pride horses are too hot", while in reality you just can't breed enough pace into them to make them perform good enough as BL horses."

I think that's it in a nutshell.  My big gelding(Exclusive Entertainer aka Beavis)(shown in my avatar) is out of Exclusive Pride out of Pride of Midnight on the sires side and Entertainer's Oynx out of The Entertainer on the Dams side is a marshmellow.  A strong word will break his heart.  Will do anything for a treat or a scratch.  I love the old bloodlines, well anything without Merry Go Boy in it.  I've found that bloodline to have a mean streak a mile wide in it.

I was lucky enough to have met Midnight Sun when I was a little girl (8yo) and let me tell you, he was the most laid back, loving horse I've ever seen.  For a stallion, he was the standard all should strive too.

i too have heard that, and have owned several pusher bred horses. one almost ended my ridding completely and i missed work for about a month. i swore i would never own one again. that being said i did (and currently do)own another pusher x prides gold coin gelding. nothing more gentle. very laid back ride my 5 yr old on a buddy saddle on him. he is turning 5yrs.

the pusher and generator blood is hot, as a general rule. but the mares temperment is paramount in the disposition on the colt (at least this is my opinion). if the mare is hot or kind of skindish the colt will likely be too (same way with cattle).

After I bought my first mare I looked at her pedigree I found she is very "line bred" with Pride of Midnight 4 x and Midnight Sun 16 times!! There are at least 3 or 4 brother-sister matings. Is this common from Harlinsdale Farms?

I dont know what to make of this except to say she is very prone to ringworm which her immune system has trouble getting rid of and she is allergic to iodine (not a good thing to be allergic to if you have got a fungal infection). If I ever bred her I would make sure she is from a very different bloodline.

She has the most odd dominant personality I have ever met. She is very unafraid of humans and is very very cuddly, and mouthy, and ADD. She was a real handful at first and I have never had to put a horse in its place like her. Now she has respect she is actually nice to handle and meeting her now you would not realize how unpleasant she was at first. She is like a puppy and likes to play with toys and never needed to be stock whip trained (is less scared of it than I am). She was a handful on the ground but was virtually beginner safe under saddle from green broke - no buck, no gallop, but still very forward. She is black.

If you have Ipeds she is called She's Sally.

I also own her 1/2 sister by the same stallion who is registerd as She's a PrimmaDonna - and she is. She has a lot of horses with "Gens" as a prefix and has other horses with Generator in the mare line.

I dont ride her because I always ride alone and she is extremely buddy sour. If she is in a group she is quiet. She has hysterics if I take her out alone. Also she has lots and lots of personality.

If she does not get her way she stamps her feet and paws. She is a very pretty blonde flaxen chestnut - very blonde. Very marish and thingy when in season.

Is this the sort of thing they mean by "hot"?

I just recently purchased a 6 y/o gelding with Prides Generator, Mack K's Handshaker, Sun's Delight D, and Ebony Masterpiece. I has devoted several days spending time with this gelding prior to purchase. Not being TWH savvy I went with my gut feeling from him. Yes a little pacey but not hot in any form. His prior stable arrangement and lack of human interest has lead to a majority of his disposition. So to say it, am I reading these boys wrong or am I in for a fun awakening? Again any and all help welcome.

Very interesting topic. Always wondered what lines were tied to what characteristics.

My mare is a granddaughter of Skywatch and Bold Design. (Sky's Bold Sky) She's got a ton of energy and flare, goes fast and is the hottest horse in the barn. However we compliment each other and she does everything with me. Depends on what kind of horse you want to ride, one that is always moving under you or stands still. She took to shooting well(was a surprise to me!), trail rides great and sorts cattle...but I would only put a serious rider on her. She is always a handful.

My black gelding is a son of Generator's Man of Magic and Pride mare. (Lola's Magic Man) He is an awesome trail horse and field trial horse, and will do a lot that he doesn't want to do to make us happy. However he is reactive and requires a confident rider. Lots of go. Hard keeper, built like a greyhound and has to be worked to stay looking like I pour as much feed into him as I do.

New guy is Midnight Sun and Merry Go Boy. (Mo Bodacious) He is laid back and cool and ready for action. I bought this guy two weeks ago and he hadn't been ridden for a year til I got on him. In two weeks he has been team sorting and was supposed to go mounted shooting this weekend. I just had to let him watch a few people sort cows and when it was his turn he was on them like a QH. Has some speed but you have to ask for it. Not easy to work up, he's just awesome and always looking to me for the saddle up and go.

My winter project right now that is super intelligent and a gaiting machine. (My Ultra Copy) He's got the Gll Carbon Copy Brenda mentioned. He is always mentally engaged and super athletic, a trainer's dream. I had him side-passing 20 minutes after I first asked him to do it. He is always looking to work 24/7 and wants to do everything right. The hard part is constantly finding something new to challenge him with. However he does need a rider who wants to play with their horse and mentally challenge him, otherwise he gets bored. Great for the tinkerers who love to train and ride, not so good news for the passengers.

My new mare is by He's Puttin on the Ritz out a a Pride's Generator daughter, I rescued her from a bad situation where she had to fight off other horses for meals, about 300 pounds underweight. I slowly have been putting the weight on and what is emerging is a super confident, intelligent mare who has a tendency to want to be the leader, we had one " Come to Jesus" session and she has come around very quickly, she had never worn a blanket in her life but after one session you can put it on and off over her head with no halter, she is on the energetic side, but that is a plus in my book, she's all get up and go, and the thing I love is when i have her in the round pen getting her to flex and bend when you ask her to finally move out, you can visually see her shift her weight to her hind end and pick up those front feet, this is without a doubt the nicest TWH I have ever had on pure quality of looks and gait, so much so that I am sending her to be professionally started on training under saddle, I just don't have the time to put consistent training into her and she most definately deserves it, she's going to be a gem under saddle, fantastic moving horse.
