I don't have an icey but would love to have one. I am afraid that the HOT HUMID summers would not be good for them since they are use to cold. I do love the way they look and that tolt looks sooooo smooth!

They would be fine down there. There are a few living in FL.  You would just need to keep them clipped when they are furry.  Even up here...I clip.

I do know of a couple and that is what the owner said. Sometimes I have trouble just keeping Coop brushed. Can't imagine what it must be like to clip. But they sure would be a lot of fun. I would love to have a 12-13H blue roan. With black points. But wishing and having are two different things. So I am gonna be happy with what I have. A Trottingbred pony that paces. I have gotten him into a slow rack but not for very long. I will have to stick to driving him.

I am new to this site, but own 8 Icelandics and I love the temperment and everything about them. I mostly trail ride and camp with my ponies. I will be selling some of the Iceys after I get their registration papers in order. I have red duns, palominos, blacks, bay and a grey. Only one gelding out of the 8, the rest are mares, all are 12 to 13 hands tall.

Hello ToniPony,

Eight Ice Ponies...cool.  Where are you located? How long have you had Icelandic Horses?

I am located in Southern Missouri, just over the Arkansas border. I got my first Icelandic just over a year ago. I picked up 8 more in August, but one has already been placed. I have some pictures on my website.

It was sort of a rescue, the owner was in a bad drought area, out of grass and hay plus her ponds had dried up. The ponies were all in good condition, but she had to get rid of them or she was going to put them to sleep. We picked up 8 Icelandics, all purebred from 3 to 20 years old. One gelding was broke and he has already found a home. All of them are very gentle and easy to deal with. The 3 year olds had not been touched, but came around easier than any other ponies I have worked with. There are some in this group that are really gaited and I am excited about getting them started riding. I already had one registered mare that is super, I trail ride her everywhere and she never makes a wrong move.

Oh...yes, I know the OK owner. I hope you're able to register those horses.  She was a bit nilly-willy when it came to breeding and keeping track.

Did she file the stallion reports, do the DNA, etc?

We are working on doing all that now. She did not keep up with her paperwork. The older mare is already registered with Canadian registry and has her FEIF number and has been DNA'd. Her filly is sired by a registered stallion, so should not be a problem on getting those 2 done. Some of the others are out of horses that are already registered and DNA'd, so hopefully we can get everything in order.

Thank You, My MFT stallion is my pride and joy. Today I saddled one of the Iceys for the first time and she was great, no hump, buck or spook and she is going to be a gaited machine... Can't wait to ride her.
