About three and a half years ago I bought a yearling McCurdy. He will be 5 this May so the past January he went to a trainer to learn how to really do what come naturally. I had him broke to ride as a four year old. He has been with the trainer for three weeks now and we took to him a small schooling type show today, just for the experience of seeing the outside world. Here is a picture I took of Smoke (McCurdy's Wholly Smoke) with Dub Ivins riding him. I did get to ride him in two of the classes for the first time gaiting him for me! I love McCurdy's!!! And he is gorgeous! He looks bigger than most I know. How tall is he? That is such great news and know you are anxious to get out there with him - trails and shows! Our BO has 2 wonderful ones and we used to ride with a Pastor McDuffie here in SC, now deceased, who raised some and that's all he rode. He held organized rides for all McCurdy owners at Hitchcock Woods near us, several times a year. Great inspirational man. We miss him a lot. But love the breed!

Thank you all. Smoke is 15.2, his dam is 15.3. I was kinda hoping he would take his size from his sire McCurdy's New Tradition. He is a very honest and willing guy, and super sensitive. Guess part of his new job will be to learn to come pick me up off whatever I am standing on!
