Khemosabi on Bask is what is considered one of THE Golden Crosses in Arabian breeding, Bask is probably the greatest Arabian stallion of all time, Khemosabi not too far behind, while Bask was a English Pleasure Saddle seat type, he produced virtually every type of pleasure horse there was, Khemosabi was one of the greatest minded horses of all amd produced it, I have the blood of both in my Arabians and cherish it the further back it now goes. I have crossed both lines on Walking Horse bloodlines and had phenomenal results, both in and out of the showring. 2 were gaited, one not, but she is GREAT minded in anything you ask. I also have a He's Puttin On The Ritz daughter out of a Prides Generator daugher, she is a new mare to me and I have had to spend the time fattening her up before she goes to the trainer for polishing up, she is a big, scopey very free and loose walking mare with a lot of pep, but a LOT of intelligence, just the way I like them, she bridles up so naturally and just has a lot of quality about her. I have always loved the Prides Generator line. Last edited on Wed Jan 18th, 2012 05:10 pm by LARHAGE ____________________ God Forbid that I shall go to a Heaven without Horses. |

Larhage, thank you for sharing your personal experience. We really like this colt except for the fact that he seems so much smaller than the other Arabian geldings his age. His mother (the TWH) was about 16 hands and his father was over 15 hands, but he is a tiny thing. I still think his growth might have been stunted due to poor nutrition and don't know if he would "mostly" catch up. We keep waffling. Yet again yesterday my husband what my gut feeling was.

Well Khemosabi was 14'3 and Bask was barely 15, not to mention Arabians are very slow maturing, but your right, the worms may have had an issue, but at 18 months he has a lot of time with good nutrition to get some size, but don't worry too much about size and weight carrying ability, Arabians are famous for their ability to be a big horse in a small package, mine are 14'2 and 15', and they are the boss of the others!

14.3 would be just fine. Part of our hesitation is that we are either looking for another youngster to start OR a horse that our youngest and most novice visitors can ride that either of us can also enjoy....so we are looking at quite a few this weekend. I know that's a huge disparity, but we seem to be drawn to specific horses for a (sometimes unknown) reason, and if after this weekend we are not drawn to any of the others stronger, I think Walker will be in the front of our minds again. I can't stop thinking about him, even though logic tells me he might not be a good fit for us in the long term, and he's one I think I'd have a terrible time parting with.

Larhage, it's nice to hear from someone who knows about these lines of horses. They sound super. Rene, I don't know if you are a Christian, but I suggest that you pray about it and ask God to lead you down the path you are to take. Then let Him take care of it. It will go the way it's supposed to....

Lakota, I've been into Arabians forever, have bred and shown them, yet I've always enjoyed my Walkers, when I crossed a Half Walking Horse mare with a big time Arabian stallion, people thought I was nuts, the resulting foal was a Halter and Performance Champion, so I did it again with a different Arabian stallion, and another Halter and Performance Champion, that Walking horse blood adds so much, a natural ability to collect and engage the hind end, couple it with the beauty and athletic ability of Arabians, it's a super nice riding horse with flash and brains.

Admittedly I have wondered why a person would cross a Quarter horse with a Walking horse. But I can see how the crossing of the Arabian and Walker would be nice. It would give much elegance to a Walking horse. I would love to see pictures of your crosses!

Yeah LaVonne, I wouldn't cross a Quarter with a Walker either as they have vastly different neck lengths and sets, even some Arabian lines with Quarters are not great, you have to have the same "type" to be successful, breed type to type, both should have relatively the same set to the neck, you won't get something in the middle if one has a high set neck and one has a low set neck, you'll get a low set neck with a big engine that can't bridle up correctly because it has a stock type neck set, I've seen many disasters like that, like a Porsche spinning it's wheels in a sand pit! I am a sucker for a black or dark bay with that kind of chrome!
