I'm thrilled to be doing business with Bobby Beech, the 'grand man' of the gaited horse world, and owner of National Bridle Shop. We've been friends and business associates for. . .let's see. . .longer than either one of us probably care to admit! He was my first wholesale customer for the book, Gaits of Gold, and always a highly reputable, friendly, and fair competitor on the general tack market. Bobby and his staff will be doing stocking and order fulfillment for Gaits of Gold. As the business grew up around my work, it became increasingly challenging to keep up with all the various aspects of it. I never set out to become a retail tack vendor, and this proved to be the most challenging aspect of the business. Dealing with wholesale suppliers and manufacturers, keeping inventory in stock, tracking incoming and outgoing shipments, merchant accounts. . .while I was blessed with excellent horse, administrative and customer service employees, they were soon overwhelmed by the sheer volume of responsibilities, when all of this was included in the mix. Bobby was eager to work with me, and to represent the rest of the Gaits of Gold product line. (Can you hear the words "Mutual Respect" between the lines? It is there, in spades.) So we've been working together the past several months to pull this deal together. He has the business savvy, the trained staff, the warehouse facilities - the ability to keep product in stock, ready for shipment - that Gaits of Gold so desperately needs if we are to serve our customers in the highest possible manner, which has always been our goal. National Bridle Shop also offers a much wider line of equestrian products, so they can spread their overhead out more efficiently than a company such as ours, that carries a more limited, exclusive line. (In fact, any item you see on our pages, whether showing via NBS catalog or website or not, can be ordered directly from us, or from NBS.) What this means is that we, like NBS, can offer you the best possible prices on the items you purchase, due to 'economy of scale.' It also means you have a wider selection of products from which to choose! Best yet, my staff and I can get back to the business of providing our customers with the most reliable gaited horse training information, and products, on the market today. While we're not handling merchandise any longer, you can be sure our customer service staff will answer any questions you may have thoroughly, and handle your orders efficiently. Bobby has been in the industry for a coon's age. He knows it, inside out, and was kind enough to take me under his wing and introduce me to suppliers whom he knows, and trusts. He facilitated the new relationship between myself and Mike Stoker, owner of Big Horn. I'm 100% satisfied that Mike and his staff are going to provide all of you with products - including the Imus 4-Beat(tm) saddle - that meet, and in some ways exceed, the high standards established by Gaits of Gold. Because of the way this has freed up my time and staff, I can now participate more regularly here on the Message Board, disseminating information. I also have a number of new products under consideration and/or development. All of you, and your horses, are going to be the BIG winners because of this new partnership! Friends, this is a huge team effort - and our entire team is battling to earn your complete loyalty, and ongoing support! Brenda

Just curious ... will NBS be actually stocking the 4-Beat saddles in their store (leather ones)? Is is Big Horn that is actually making the saddles and then shipping them to NBS? I'm a bit confused. Have a reason for asking, though. I'm still not convinced that my standard tree 4-Beat is fitting my horse properly. I've been wanting to take a picture of his back and send it to you so you can see if he needs the wide tree or if the standard is fitting him. If he needs the wide, then I will order it. I know NBS takes trade-ins as I've done it before with them (you're right .. they are great to deal with) If they will have the 4-Beats in stock and its determined I need a wide tree, then maybe they woud take a trade-in??? It's about 2 hours or so from me so it's doable. Or is NBS just handling the cordura models?

Hey all, sorry for the confusion here. We initially thought the cinch would only need to be available in one size. But the elastic is not that flexible - it needs to hold the saddle in place, and be tough enough for durability - so Mike decided we'd make it available in sizes, after all. Order the size closest to what you currently use. They're back ordered b/c it's a new product, and it takes time to build inventory on new products. It's been quite an adventure for GOG, NBS, and BH, pulling all this together. I think the results will be well worth the effort, though - especially as it allows us all to serve YOU better, in the long run. As to the question regarding the saddle. Yes, Big Horn is producing all of them from here on out. There are a couple of old time saddle makers on staff who are building them by hand (yes!), as opposed to a 'production run' saddle. This means they will continue to possess the high quality that our saddles have become known for. It also means that it will take some time to get a stock of ready to ship inventory on hand at NBS. Right now we're looking at shipping the first ones out around the first of April. Mike is having his men build two saddles for every one ordered, so we can have some on hand for Equine Affaire. . .we anticipate that NBS will have a good stock of ready to ship inventory by mid-summer. While both GOG and NBS staff will take orders and provide top quality customer service, all shipments will be made from NBS headquarters, in TN. You would have to talk to the folks at NBS regarding possible saddle trade-ins. They're easy to do business with. Quite honestly, you might do better selling your saddle yourself on the secondary market, as there is a huge demand for them. There's only so much a retail dealer can offer as a 'trade in' toward a new saddle. Be sure to send us your photos so I can evaluate the fit you've got. What makes you think the standard isn't working? Any more questions? Fire away! PB

The reason I am wondering if the standard tree is working is that if I slip my fingers under the front of the saddle at the skirt, I get a pinching effect. I'm the one who was just girthing it up like a regular saddle and felt the pinching. You advised me on the MB that I MUST use the 3-point rigging. So I re-rigged the saddle, and that does seem to help. Keeps the back of the saddle down where it's supposed to be and gives a bit more room in the front. I feel some pressure when I slip my finger under there now, but not the "pinch, pinch" I felt with each step. I figure there's got to be some pressure wherever it makes contact with the body. I also think that because I CAN get the index finger under the saddle up to about the 2nd knuckle that it can't be that tight. I seem to have adequate clearance over the pommel, and I think a wide tree might not give me that. The horse stumbles and that was the other reason I was thinking that perhaps the saddle was too narrow and interferring with his shoulder movement. The saddle is very stable on him and I'm not experiencing any sliding forwards or backwards or side-to-side. I use a tacky-too saddle pad. I was told by someone that the saddle didn't fit him (after I had been wondering the same thing). I think that because I've read so many articles on saddle fit I just have to obsess over it!!! That was the other question I had. In every saddle fitting article I've ever read, it is stressed that the saddle must not interfere with the shoulder and should sit behind the scapula. Yours is designed to sit over the withers and does seem to press down on the shoulders slightly. Why is that??? I'll get the pictures soon. I want to sent you one also of him tacked up in the saddle. I do love this saddle. I must have sat in about 6 saddles up at Bedford Tack, and kept going back to the 4-Beat as the one that sat the best.

Since I'm not on site, I cannot say for sure if there's a problem. One way to find out. You, or another person, mount up on the horse. Have a second person slide the flat of their hand right under the front edge of the tree, where it sits over the shoulder. Now have the horse walk off - slowly! The hand will take the pressure - actually a little more - that the shoulder would normally take. Is it pinching, and painful? Or is there just moderate pressure. That will tell you what the horse is experiencing. Our saddle sits more forward for a number of important reasons. First: it puts the rider over the horse's TRUE Center of Gravity, rather than behind it. Secondly, if you place the saddle behind the scapula, then there's an excellent chance the shoulder, as it rotates back with each stride, will hit the front edge f the tree. Add to this fact that the rider's weight is distributed primarily toward the horse's loins - the weakest point of the horse's back - and you've got potential for a world of pain and discomfort. Our tree is designed to be able to sit over the shoulder/withers without undue pressure or interference. The built in Supracor padding makes this even more do-able. Keep us posted. . . PB

Hey, PB, thanks for the quick response. When I'm mounted in the saddle and the horse is walking, I can slip my fingers under the front edge of the tree. I no longer feel the quick pinches I used to feel (since I started cinching it up properly!) but feel moderate pressure. I can feel his shoulders rotating. When the saddle is removed, there are no dry spots. I think the saddle is okay (I hope I hope I hope!!!). I just keep forgetting to take pictures, but will try to get the mind in gear.

By golly, I think you've got it! Now, you can start doing exercises to get your horse balanced properly over his haunches - this should eliminate the stumbling. Keep us posted! PB
