Hi everyone~

Didn't know if you all knew about selling your old tack on eBay, the internet auction. I just bought a 4 beat saddle (10/10/06) and sold my old Tuck** on eBay for over $1,000 (I'm currently saddleless and waiting for my 4 beat:P to arrive). So if you want to trade-up you should give that a shot. So much easier and much greater audience than local tack store or local paper. My old saddle was listed, sold, money collected, shipped out in just over a week. If anyone has any questions about selling their tack on eBay just ask, I've had over 4,000+ sales through that auction site and would love to help. :)

I also had great luck selling 2 ****  saddle on e-Bay, as well as a bit. The saddles both sold for $200.00 more than I had hoped to get for them. Within the week they were sold, paid for,( even the shipping) and were gone. Made more room for my 4 beat saddles!

I sold three saddles on ebay in the past 4 months!  I got far more than I knew they were worth.  I actually felt guilty selling them because I know they are not suitable for gaited horses.  But the buyers never specified what type of horses they would be used on.  Still.......guilt.

I have to take pics of a cutback saddle I have to post and sell on there this weekend. Also, my 2h, GN trailer.  I've sold many of the items I've made over the years on ebay.  It's a great source for buying and selling.

Cybernurse,

Just a Reminder - It is buyer beware when buying a saddle from ebay. If saddles are not stored properly, you might end up with a twisted tree. You have no guarantee of fit. And without proper information, you could end up with a FAKE!

http://gaitsofgold.com/wowbb/forum52/2519.html

I am not sure how this event ended. I am sure the buyer was stressed to say the least. I cannot find the thread where the saddle was determined a fake. Ya'll just be really careful! I love ebay, too. Just ask ALL the right questions.

Hi Whattarack~

I'm not buying a saddle from eBay, I was SELLING a saddle on eBay. If you want to be protected with your purchase, as far as fakes, doesn't fit, not as advertised,etc-make your payment through Paypal and it will be insured if you use a confirmed address. You can get your money back through that service if it is not as advertised in the auction. Always check seller's feedback, return policy and yes, ask all the right questions. GOG even has listed their saddles on eBay! I have bought other brand new tack off their, lunge lines, halters, etc and have been pleased but you should always beware if you don't have the item in your hands to inspect, you are so right!!

Yep, eBay has been good to me. It helps generate my equine fund through the auctions.  Thanks for the reminder...have many useless-to-me saddles to list...& just in time for the Holiday season! (Well, other useless to me stuff too...)

Wonder if the 4Beat fits a reindeer? They have cadence...

I have a saddle that needs to be sold on Ebay. My husband is concerned about giving Ebay our bank account numbers over the worldwide net . This information needs to be supplied for Identity.

Nope you don't need to give any numbers to sell on Ebay!!

Only need these if you want to pay with paypal - and then you can use credit card - and very low risk on loosing $$ with Government regulations on credit card fraud.

Credit cards ar a very protected medium for business transactions, IMO.

I have always used a credit card with a very low limit for any puter transactions. But you will get to a limit with paypal where if you want to continue using them, you have to give them bank acct info.

(I HATE PayPal now that they make you have a premier account if you sell over $500 of stuff a month, charging the seller 3%+ !!! One saddle is over $500!)

I did get "verified" with Pay Pal which requires you register your checking account - and now that I think about it I had to in order to sell and use paypal as a payor source - but far as I know, selling on Ebay does not require Pay Pal.  The "verifying" please use your checking account is just their way of getting around the merchant fee's - which can be pretty high.   All in all, ebay is a great way to sell/buy things and beats the local paper - worth the cost to me.

I just sold an Imus saddle on ebay without pay pal.  I did have one person that sent a message that she was nervous about bidding with no pay pal.  I'm not much of an ebay person but I did get a fair price on my saddle and had ran it elsewhere for less with no takers.  Selling on there does reach more people and therefore increases the chance of selling.

I listed my ******* gaited Pleasure saddle on Ebay. It has not had any bids. Should I allow returns? Should I put the stirrup leathers and throw a pad in too? I didn't put a reserve. But I did put a starting bid of 500. It was a 1790 saddle.

Throw in what you don't need.  Do not take returns.  Make sure you list it as gaited!  "Buy it now" option worked for me.  If you put no reserve, but have a starting price it is the same difference.  I made all my sales PAy Pal Only for the protection it offers me the seller and me the buyer.

Good luck!r1

I sell tons of stuff on eBay, over 4,000 items so far. I sold a saddle on there recently also. Since you had no bids on your saddle my suggestion is if you can wait until Spring and don't need the money now try to hold off until it starts to warm up and the rainy season is over. The best way to make top dollar is sell your item when the timing is right that way you have more bidders=more $$. Also take lots of pictures and make sure they're good ones, with natural light outside. Since they can't touch the saddle they want to be able to check it out throughally before buying, spending that amount of money is a big committment.

I didn't allow a return on my saddle either as someone can use it and not take proper care and then want their money back, forget that! I suggested in my auction ad they try a saddle that's the same as the one I was selling on their horse from their local tack shop to see if it fits properly. Personally I wouldn't want to buy a used blanket or girth from someone else's horse because I wouldn't want to take a chance of any skin diseases but that's just me. I can't afford any more vet bills right now.

PM me if you need any more help or suggestions, I just love eBay! I hope it works out for you.

I am a Bronze Powerseller on eBay.  I have almost 9000 feedback, with a 99.9% positive rate.  I have sold saddles on eBay and had no problems whatsoever.  The trick to eBay is to pay attention to the FEEDBACK.  If there are negatives on the seller, take the time to read through the feedback and remember to take the number of auctions the seller runs vs. the negatives into account.  When you read their feedback, check out what folks say about their shipping habits.  Always look for "quick shipping"!

I use PayPal.  When I first started using it, it was free to sellers.  Once they got us all roped in, they started charging us through the nose.  eBay was much cheaper too and now look at them...and since they own PayPal....  The good thing about PayPal is that they are the only ones that see your credit card number.  Some sellers take credit cards without using PayPal.  Who would you rather do business with?

Be very careful when using eBay.  It is very ADDICTIVE!

Debbie

I think you have to get people emotionally involved in the sale for ebay to work.  Here's what I mean.  As soon as somone starts to bid on something, I believe the bid button becomes an emotional investment, lol, so they continue to hit that button.  Obviously everyone has a limit, but then that gets the ball rolling for the others that are watching the auction.  What I like to do is start the auction on a low price and have a resonable reserve.  It gets the bidders involved and the ball rolling for the higher bidders.  I love Ebay too!  I've bought and sold so many saddles this way and I've always either made money or came out even.
