Anyone in the Escondido area know more about the fire by the wild animal park??  BO said it's about 9 miles away and with no trailer I'm getting nervous.  I haven't heard any more news about how many acres are burning.  Anyone know anything else?  Wonder if I should get in my car now!?

Thanks!!

I haven't heard much about the Escondido fire.  I have family living there and sure would like an update also.  Our news has been too busy with the fires surrounding us.  We had 15 start Friday with more starting each day within about a 50 mile radius of us; fortunately none came closer than 10 miles away but we've been living with the smoke and haze and having major highways closed due to the smoke and of course, the fire fighting.  Praise the Lord for all those firefighters.

Prayers for you and yours, Rackn.  If you still have a possibility of being evacuated throughout this long, hot, dry summer, make your plans now to evacuate and be ready - line up a trailer and a place to take your horse to; then, get your and your family ready to leave at a moments' notice.  Our friends were evacuated less than 4 hours after the start of the fire and saw the flames leaping 10' and higher in their rear view mirror;  but, the fire burned within 10 feet of their home.

Yes GypsySusan, I did hear about Idaho. So very glad you and your family okay. With that smoke & haze probably makes going outside hard. You take care. Maybe Rackn will let us know when she can.

I helped a friend evacuate her horses last year because of a wild fire.  She had 30 horses to move and didn't take the chance of waiting.  As it was they would have been fine at home but you just never know.  Rackn, I would try to line up a ride for your horses with someone.

Oh Susan, I was thinking about you, didn't realize it was that close.  The fire is out, guess it was contained at 40 acres.  We are so dry though and with it starting within ten miles of my place, it had me nervous.  I think we got a total of 3 inches of rain last year, so it is DRY!!  Hope you get some relief soon.  Fire is a scarey thing.  We have no trailers on the property, they said they would rent one in the event of a real emergency, but still.

Hi neighbor!  If you get in a jam like that with fire you should always have the number of friends with trailers - often search and rescue folks will come out during a fire and get lots of people out.  You have to know how to hitch, haul, load, etc. in an emergency.  Also, call the humane society and ask who they use since they are often present in our big fires.  Your farrier and vet are good resources too.  Keep the list and numbers handy.  If the fire gets close, call them and have them on stand-by because if they volunteer for this type of work during a big burn they will be called out and possibly not be available when you need them most.  You also need a place to haul to. You can come down here (Jamul). We often get horses during a burn in the pens and arena. The rodeo grounds is are another option for hauling.

These are wonderful suggestions, thank you!  I don't have a list of friends in the area, because we just moved here, but the other ideas are great.  I think that is also part of the reason fire scares me even more somewhere new.  Before my sister would be ready to roll if I needed help.  But I will get the other suggestions ready in case I need them.  Thanks!  Glad it turned out well.

More fires burning next to million dollar homes and tons of horses.  Not near mine, but man the threat of fire is REAL around here.  I can't even say I hope we get some rain....  just don't get that good stuff, especially this time of year.  Hope they get it under control, it's roaring in Bonsall now.  :?  DH just drove over the bridge on the 76 with flames bursting on either side.

rackn':  I feel for you.  We have 5-6 fires burning all around us but nothing very close to our home.  There is one that started today burning out in the desert about 6 miles from us which I hope they get under control quickly.  It's on the other side of the river from us so we're not in danger.  This is one of the worst years we've had since we moved here.  We are all suffering from bad throats and congestion from the smoke.

Stay safe and keep an eye and an ear on that fire by you.  Susan

It's just crazy!  That sounds really scary, Susan.  I don't know much about the weather in your parts... do you get much rain??  Did you all have a dry winter season too?  We are SOOO dry here.  I found out the last fire started because a truck crashed into to something.  Doesn't take much, does it??

You guys stay safe too.  6 miles is close to home!

I know.  When you can see the flames that's much too close!

We don't get much rain and we've been in a drought situation for about 15 years.  I think after 15 years, they'd just declare our area a desert - which it is; it's called high desert plateau.  Any way, our reservoirs are at 30% right now which means unless we get what the locals call a "normal" winter, which I understand is 6 inches of snow about once a week during the winter (YIKES  that's a lot of snow), we are going to be in big trouble next year.  Plus, the acquifer is seriously depleted and there aren't any good plans to get it recharged.  Since we moved here, our house well went dry and we had to have it redrilled deeper but with the depletion, it might not be deep enough now.  Big water problems coming.  We almost had our water allotment for our pasture curtailed this year.  They didn't make the final decision until July 6.

The thing I don't understand is that the farmers around us don't practice good water conservation methods.  They water the roads, the untilled areas.  They water during the hottest part of the day, etc. while all the cities, schools, parks, homeowner, etc. are on restrictions.  Since the ag people are the biggest users of water and really have the most to lose if water's curtailed, one would think they'd be the most conservative in their use.  e1hb1  (big sigh).  Susan

I'm sending up prayers again for you rackin'.  This has been a terrible fire season and it just won't quit.  We got torrential rain after the big fire up a Sun Valley and of course, then the mud slides started.  Everything's stable for now.  Sure hope you don't get your winter rains after the fires.

Rackin' we're praying for your safety and those of the horses.  With Our Lord's Love, Susan

I hope everyone out there is ok, Loading my last horse last night, embers were flying, truely terrifying.  I couldn't sleep at all last night and we did it again this morning.  It's got to be the worst feeling when they tell you a rode is closed and you can't get in.  I wasn't sure this morning if I'd make it to them.  Now our home is in danger, fire right up on the hill.  Please if you can pray these winds stop.  Thank you.

Hey Rackn,  you are in my prayers.  I wish we weren't on the other side of the country or I would be there to help in any way I could.:(
